Girls’ Class of 2028 Standout Defensive Players: Piedmont Region

<p>The class of 2028 has a lot of defensive talent in the Piedmont region, of which I've written about. The ones in this list come from articles on the <a href="https://prepsoccer.com/2026/05/best-of-girls-class-of-2028-northern-piedmont/" id="https://prepsoccer.com/2026/05/best-of-girls-class-of-2028-northern-piedmont/">northern</a> and <a href="https://prepsoccer.com/2026/04/best-of-girls-class-of-2028-southern-piedmont/" id="https://prepsoccer.com/2026/04/best-of-girls-class-of-2028-southern-piedmont/">southern</a> regions. Each region's respective standout player is who I'll write about.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Goalkeepers</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Paige is a goalkeeping talent whose talent and potential continue to grow each season. One of her biggest attributes is her diving. No matter how difficult a shot seems to be, she manages to pull off a picturesque save to keep it from finding the back of the net. She deals with powerful shots from range spectacularly, but she does the same with shots out of the blue in the box. Her reflexes are fantastic, putting her at an advantage against the opposing attacker.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Parker is an immensely talented goalkeeper who is characterized by her intelligence. Her awareness is top-notch, never losing sight of the ball regardless of how difficult it is to keep her eyes on it. She knows what a play asks for and adjusts to it quickly and precisely. If she needs to rush, she'll do so easily. The same can be said when she needs to stay on her line. Her airtime is also great. She hangs in the air to either catch the ball above the attackers or to make a diving save.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Defenders</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Brielle constantly proves to be one of the most exciting defenders in the state, regardless of graduating class. She can perform at a high level as either a center back or a defensive midfielder. Wherever she plays, she imposes herself through her intelligence and physicality. She doesn't need to rely on strong tackles or slide tackles to win balls back in crucial positions. Her positioning and reading of the game put her in an advantageous position where most defenders would struggle. She won't get beaten for pace or outmuscled by most attackers either. When she's defending in open space, she baits attackers to try and exploit the space just to take the ball off them with remarkable ease.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Ava is another defender with sky-high potential. She has the talent to play as a center back, right back, or defensive midfielder. Her technical ability allows her to resist pressure from the opposition and progress play cleanly. Physically, she bullies attackers off the ball very easily without being rash. She's very calculated when she goes in for a tackle, being almost surgical. Whenever an attacker is through on goal, she catches up to them to then block their shot before they realize she's even there. She also shows them space to trick them into taking it before she recovers it without breaking a sweat. Her shot power is remarkable too, hitting rockets from very far out.</p>
