Girls Academy 2011 Talent ID: 5 Players to Watch

The Girls Academy National Talent ID event kicks off on Tuesday from Virginia. Thirty-eight players have been called up for the event with representation from all over the country.   Check out a scouting report on five of the players to know from this roster.    [player_tooltip player_id='380773' first='Shaory' last='Ascencio Garcia'] is a defensive midfielder on the Albion SC Las Vegas squad. She's an impactful player in the center of the field. She uses her body well in the duel and comes out with the ball cleanly. She knows how to shield a player off the ball and also draw a foul from those situations. She has a good feel for the game and seems to always be thinking a play or two ahead of the game.     Barber is a defensive center midfielder on the Charlotte Independence 2011 GA team. She is quick, covers a ton of ground, and makes quick decisions on the ball. Barber's ability to cover the whole field stood out from her play in Norco. She flies around the pitch line she has an extra lung. The engine of the Independence midfield certainly deserves the spotlight with this event as she outworks her opponent regularly and will probably outrun everyone in Virginia.     Brown is a speedy left winger who can create chances with her ability on the dribble in 1v1 situations against outside backs. She shined during the recent Girls Academy event in Norco. She has the pace to get in behind the defense and does well with the timing of her runs.   If Brown gets on a squad with a midfielder who is creative in the attacking role, she will be a breakout star in the attack. She's got all the quality in the final third to be a leading scorer at the event.     Roman is an attacking midfielder/winger from the SC Wave 2011 GA team. She can play in either role and did well in both spots during the GA postseason event. She could shine in the attacking midfield role during this event.   She's good with either foot. She scored a goal with her left foot from outside of the box in Norco. She also took a free kick with her right foot. She's a clever passer too. She's good on the dribble and goes through players with her pace and close control. Roman has the quality on the ball to shine in this event.     Tobin is a bit of a tornado on the field. The attacking talent from Coppermine is a blur when she's on the ball. She hits full speed and does not need to know or care where the brakes are. She tends to go through tackles with brute force, but she also has surprisingly nimble footwork and dances around players near the touchline. She's got a wide array of moves, but she defaults to speed when she gets into the open field.   Tobin is a terrific player to scout because she plays with such confidence. She's going to get at players with the ball at her feet and she knows she can beat them in one way or another. The success she shows on the field is the credit to her work at an individual level. This type of individual showcase event should be the perfect platform for raising her profile in front of scouts.
