ECNL San Diego U15 Preview : Who's Ready To Control the Middle?

ECNL San Diego kicks off October 10th-12th, launching the first showcase of the season for the U15 age group. With top competition gathering from across the country, all eyes are on the players ready to make an early statement. Ahead of the tournament, here are five U15 midfielders to know who could make a real impact in San Diego. Gwerder brings a high level of quality to her game, starting with her first touch and sharp turning ability. She uses her skill set to attack defenders directly, often taking on multiple players in the final third. In addition, she recognizes the right moments to slow the tempo and isolate a defender. Just as quickly, she can shift gears and drive down the line, causing problems for the back line. Her recent invite to the U.S. Soccer Talent ID Center speaks to her potential and upward trajectory. With her combination of composure, timing, and attacking intent, Gwerder is a player to track closely at this showcase. Shaughnessy is a winger who consistently reads the game well, knowing when to cut into space or stretch the pitch to take advantage of openings. Additionally, her ability to drive down the line and then cut in to find teammates consistently creates goal-scoring chances. She excels at disguising her passes into the box, which makes her connections with teammates even more effective. Furthermore, Shaughnessy's versatility provides her with a unique vision on the pitch, allowing her to adapt and impact the game in multiple ways. Demar does not hesitate to attack. She makes intentional runs, showing her IQ by reading the defensive line and finding pockets of space. In addition, she brings real versatility to the midfield, adapting her play based on the flow of the game. She can strike with both feet, which makes her a constant threat from multiple angles. Furthermore, her vision and ability to pick out teammates in the final third elevate her impact. Coupled with her eye for goal, Demar consistently finds ways to influence the outcome. As ECNL San Diego approaches, she is a midfielder to keep on the radar. Fallis is a midfielder who has no problem contributing to a win, often finding the net herself. She plays with aggression and reads loose balls well, frequently turning them into chances for her team. In addition, her high work rate and quick reactions help her win key moments in the midfield. Fallis brings valuable experience, having competed with the USYNT pool and celebrated back-to-back championships. She made a major impact during the ID2 International Tour in London, where her ability to break up play and drive forward stood out. Now, carrying that momentum, Fallis will look to perform in the first showcase of the season for her age group. Starting the league strong, the So Cal Blues midfielder has already shown her ability to attack and finish in the final third. She wins shoulder-to-shoulder battles and consistently gains possession, driving the ball into dangerous areas. Her quick feet allow her to face up defenders, while her vision enables her to cut passes through defensive lines and find teammates in key spots. With this combination of skill and awareness, she will be one to watch in ECNL San Diego.
