Tortola turned a lot of heads with his play in the midfield of his Columbus Crew team. Very smooth on the ball and intentional with his actions, he displayed great versatility in the middle, circulating through a large area of the field and helping in different ways. Tortola is a player who doesn’t need to keep the ball for more than a few seconds to make an impact and his tremendous vision allows him to play one-touch passes that not many other players in the field envisioned. He’s also very intelligent with his movement off the ball and often finds himself in good positions to get on the ball or finish chances.

The Columbus Crew midfielder was excellent during the entire match, adding great dynamism to the team. He got on the ball a lot and moved on from it after just a few touches, keeping the team in motion and making it harder for opponents to defend them. Tortola also supported the attack very well and displayed great intelligence to make the run than ended in the team’s first goal, scored by him in a header inside the penalty box. Tortola started the scoring for Columbus with a nice back post run from midfield and a confident header to slam it in. He showed to be a press-resistant midfielder who consistently got on the ball and progressed the ball. Showed an ability to drive with the ball and break lines on the dribble as well as with a pass.

Tortola is another player who made the move from Nationals to Crew during this past offseason. The center midfielder had a number of MLS academies vying for his arrival before he picked Crew. He is a skillful player who is good with either foot. He hasn’t had the same flashy arrival as Su, but he has the potential to be a top prospect in that position in the future.
