Guilherme Torres | Prep Soccer Scout
Grimm helped FC Dallas Academy triumph in the tournament’s U17 Division. The left-footed center back had a big influence on the team’s 1-0 win over North Toronto Nitros B2009 OPDL in their first match in the tournament, leading their defense to a clean sheet. The Nitros tried to play long for most of the match and Grimm was always well-positioned to clear their long balls, while also doing a good job of intercepting passes and winning duels when they tried to attack through the middle. The center back also delivered on the ball, playing safe and efficient passes out of the back.

Playing as a left-sided center back, Grimm was very solid defensively for Dallas. He kept things simple in the back, using his excellent positioning to make stops and disrupt the Dynamo’s attacking plays in his zone. The defender also showed good mobility to cover his teammates and defend in space, recovering well in what could have been a couple of dangerous plays from the home team. Grimm was the starting point of almost every Dallas buildup play, distributing the game intelligently and finding the team’s midfielders between the Dynamo’s defensive lines.

A technical and intelligent outside back, Grimm does solid work on the left side of FC Dallas ‘ backline. Standing at 5’10”, he has no trouble winning physical battles against most opposing wingers and is also quick enough to chase them and defend in space when needed. Grimm is not the type of outside back that will bomb forward the entire time, instead picking well the moments to support his team’s offense with his smart passing and movement off the ball. The left back is an elite crosser, who provides great service and consistently sends the ball to the head of teammates inside the box, both during the run of play and in set pieces.
