The Duke Blue Devils have, in recent history, done a great job recruiting the richly talented area of California. And in the 2025 class, there are five girls in the PrepSoccer top 63 spots (prior to the upcoming rankings update) who are Duke commits. They are very talented players worthy of high praise.

[player_tooltip player_id='50061' first='Alexis' last='Coughlin'], Central Defender, Legends FC

Coughlin is one of the ten best players in California, regardless of position, and ranked in the top five amongst defenders. She is a special player. A modern day central defender who can do it all, Coughlin shows comfort on the ball as she can hit a whole range of passes. She can drop a ball over the top to a running attacker, she can break the first level of defense with a laser beam or play it on the floor to break lines. She is strong, very physical and works very hard as a defender as her strength and speed make her nearly impossible to beat 1v1. She's strong in aerial duels, excellent at knowing when to step and dispossesses cleanly entirely too often for the liking of attacking players.

[player_tooltip player_id='33318' first='Kaylee' last='Kim'], Forward, Bay Area Surf

Kim is an instinctive forward with excellent skills to go with her advanced understanding of the game. She shows great anticipation in terms of expecting the ball and knows where to be in order to be dangerous. She makes very well-timed runs and catches defenders by surprise with how well she stays onside. She's a speedy player with excellent physicality as she does not easily lose the ball. She is a cool finisher who can hit a ball one time or create for herself and deliver a terrific goal from nearly anywhere in the final third.

[player_tooltip player_id='54185' first='Daya' last='King'], Outside Defender, Legends FC

King is a fast and athletic outside defender who shows great dexterity with whatever she does. Not many players can move at such a high rate of speed and make a perfect challenge or a slide tackle. Not only can she dispossess on the move, she's quick to help her team transition. She gets up and down the line very quickly, showing excellent foot skills, top notch creativity and the ability to be a threat in the area by whipping in an accurate ball or cutting in and driving towards goal.

[player_tooltip player_id='19172' first='Avery' last='Oder'], Forward/Midfielder, Beach FC

Oder has freedom to express herself when she plays, because she is equally proficient as a wide forward or a No. 10. You can see that she is trusted to interchange with her teammates as she can tuck in with an underlapping run as she simply understands when and why to occupy space. Her movement puts her 1v1 with defenders, instead of driving right into the teeth of the defense, and she can beat anyone 1v1. She has great technical ability, she's fast and agile and she can break down a defense on her own, or use her terrific vision and passing ability to play an excellent ball into the right area.

[player_tooltip player_id='33320' first='Jocelyn' last='Travers'], Outside Defender, Bay Area Surf

Travers is a special talent at the left back position as one really cannot find a flaw in her game. There is a reason she is ranked third in the nation in the 2025 class, and second amongst defenders. It's even less of a surprise that Duke would want her. She is a player who boasts next level foot skills, showing the ability to play combination football to a degree rarely seen at this level. She shows an understanding of the game when she plays the link up game, but she can simply just take over a game because of her technical ability and beat defenders when she's on the ball, maneuvering through traffic with ease. A true creative and explosive force, Travers is also well equipped to handle any outside forward that comes down the line and is her defensive responsibility.
