Difference-Making Goalkeepers at the Texas Shootout

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The club soccer season is entering its final stretch around the country and girls' teams from Texas will have an excellent opportunity to fine-tune their games ahead of the start of the playoffs in their respective leagues this weekend.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>One of the most traditional showcases held in the Lone Star State every year, the Texas Shootout will have its 38th edition from Saturday to Monday, at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex, in the Austin area.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The tournament organized by [program_tooltip program_id='283282' first='Challenge' last='SC'] will feature as many as 120 teams from several different leagues, which will play in five different age groups during Memorial Day weekend. Some of the best players in the state will be in action this week, and before the tournament begins, we'll take a look at some of them. She moved to Texas this season, coming from Indiana, and has found a spot with [program_tooltip program_id='283296' first='Classics' last='Elite'] in the ECNL RL League. Austin is a tall and physical goalkeeper, who has excellent reflexes when operating between the posts and does a great job of controlling aerial plays in the penalty box. She has excellent reflexes and thrives by making stops in close-range shots with her ability to quickly explode for the ball. Thelen is also highly reliable and handles long-distance shots extremely well, very rarely giving up rebounds. She's an extremely technical keeper, who performs all her actions with great efficiency, providing great stability to her team. Neuman is very quick to leave her spot and does an excellent job of closing on opposing attackers and taking up space from them in 1v1 situations. Between using her length extremely well and displaying great reflexes between the posts, she gets to cover a large area in the goal. Smithson is hard to score on in 1v1 situations because she leaves the goal very quickly and uses her legs extremely well to cover more area and take up space from opposing attackers. She's coming from an excellent freshman high school season, in which she helped Lamar make a deep playoff run. Kimmel is extremely technical and efficient between the posts, handling shots and crosses with confidence and reliability. She's also capable of making difficult stops with her impressive reflexes and her ability to read plays.
