The temperature around game time was a cool 56 degrees for a 6:00 pm match in Mountain View, CA. The winter soccer season recently kicked off in Northern California, and two top-level public high school teams met for a first round conference match. The Mountain View Spartans and the Santa Clara Bruins compete in the SCVAL A-Division (Santa Clara Valley Athletic League) or top-division.

Both teams entered the match with matching 6-1 records. Last season, the Bruins went 8-7-4 overall and 4-6-2 in the league for a 6th-place finish. The Spartans went 12-8-2 overall and had a 4th place finish in league play at 5-5-2.

This match had all the makings of an intense, action-packed game, and both teams did not disappoint. Mountain View had the edge in the first half with dominating possession and by going up 2-0 at the half. The Bruins made some adjustments at the half and made a more competitive match in the second half. Both teams weren't able to put any scores on the board in the second, and the match ended in a 2-0 Spartans win.

She played a big part in the Spartans' 2-0 win over Santa Clara. Her 50/50 challenges and high pressure up top led to quality attacks on goal. Also, her speed down the channels and quick cutbacks kept the defense reeling. I've also evaluated her previously at the ECNL level in a few matches, and Olivia scored on multiple occasions. Her constant pressure and strong, tall frame allow her to win challenges and become a target in the penalty area. She almost got a goal, yet was credited for an assist in the match. Olivia plays ECNL club soccer for MVLA, usually one and sometimes two years up.

She scored goal #2 in the Spartans 2-0 win over Santa Clara. Her ability to play as a box-to-box player helped to secure support on the defensive third, while making quality runs to the 18. She also showed some speed and agility when slipping past defenders. I really liked her smooth moves to get past the defenders, before firing off a rocket shot past the goalkeeper. Lexie plays ECNL club soccer for MVLA.

She scored goal #1 in the Spartans 2-0 win over Santa Clara. Her quick reflexes got her a one-touch goal in the penalty area. A nice cross was sent directly to her feet. Sydney finished the play with a quick tap-in goal. Her ability to make the first time touch was the difference in not allowing the goalkeeper to lock in on her shot. Great heads-up goal and timing to get between defenders for the finish.

The Pepperdine commit made it difficult to make runs through the center. She also made strong and precise passes over the top to runners on the wings and almost got her team on the board. Fiona has top-level technical skills. She can maneuver in tight spaces and she makes use of her size to shake off opponents during 50/50 challenges. She plays ECNL club soccer for [program_tooltip program_id='283641' first='De' last='Anza Force'].

She played primarily on the wing and provided quick and precise passes to players in open pockets or making runs. Rylee showed some footwork in controlling the ball while getting past defenders. Her cool, calm, and collected play is what really stood out. During the second half, she mainly played up top as the Bruins tried to get on the board. I've also previously evaluated Rylee as a defender, and she looks more comfortable playing on offense.
