He led his club’s U14 team backline in the last MLS Next season and displayed an interesting foundation to develop his game in the coming years. Hartley is very determined with his defensive actions and leads the team both by example and by being vocal from his center back position. He’s capable of sustaining pressure as he defends the penalty box, but also does a good job of tracking opposing forwards higher up on the field if he has to. Hartley is also heavily involved in the team’s buildup and has a good passing range, often sending accurate long balls out of the back.
