Player Bio
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
I consider myself a composed player who excels as both a defender and midfielder, adept at seamlessly transitioning between playing as an outside back and in midfield during games. My soccer style is fluid, emphasizing strong technical skills on both feet and quick transitions that prioritize effective build-up play for my team with utilizing my passing lanes well.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
Being adopted at a later age from Ethiopia and moving to a new country has given me a different outlook on life compared to most of my peers. I always see the glass as half full and take things in stride as they come. This mindset has motivated me to work hard and seize every opportunity to improve and achieve my goals. Others often describe me as a very composed and mature teenager.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
I am deeply involved in school activities, serving as a current elected class officer for three years and leading pep rallies with recognized effectiveness by admin. Additionally, I founded and lead our DECA chapter, which grew to over 200 members in its first year and achieved diamond chapter status in our state. Recently, I was honored with the HOBY leadership award for our district and NHS.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
Leading DECA has taught me about strategic planning, effective communication, and the importance of fostering a collaborative environment to achieve shared goals. My commitment to supporting special needs teens and children as a camp counselor each year and adaptive sports volunteer has deepened my empathy, patience and adaptability.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
Moving to new country and learning a new language later than all of my peers, has pushed me to challenge myself daily. This experience taught me to embrace differences while finding common ground with others. It also strengthened my adaptability and resilience as I navigated new environments and to not fear my future. This has helped me grow in maturity on and off the soccer field.
What type of college are you looking for?
I'm searching for a college where I can develop further as a leader, both as a soccer player and and academics. It's crucial for me to join a program that prioritizes the development of student-athletes and promotes excellence in both aspects. Additionally, I'm seeking a college where there's a strong sense of unity and enthusiasm towards school events, and where all athletes are supported.
