Kristiansen was part of Cougar Bracket winners Kingwood, and I saw her in action in a 3-2 win over Cy Woods. Typically a right back, she had a much more offensive role for most of the match, operating almost as a winger for her team. The role maximized her offensive skills as Kristiansen participated in two of the team’s three goals and almost scored a fourth near the end. She was very intelligent in exploring the space, making smart runs behind the backline, sending dangerous crosses into the penalty box and coming inside to finish chances when she sensed an opportunity. After her team had a player sent off, she contributed more defensively and did a solid job shutting down her side of the field.

Kristiansen is an outside back on the Challenge 08 ECNL team. She played right back during the ECNL postseason event in Washington. Defensively, she was strong in the tackle and did well in her positioning. On the ball, she was always working to be option and outlet for her teammates. She can get forward, but she prefers to hit in an early cross. Improving on her 1v1 ability on the ball will be key to unlocking her potential. Kristiansen is a consistent contributor for her side and a rocksteady presence at outside back.

A player of Challenge SC 08, Kristiansen and her teammates are set to meet NVA, Minnesota Thunder and World Class FC in this weekend’s event. Consistency is probably one of her main assets as you always know what you are going to get from the right back, meaning solid defensive work and smart offensive connections. Kristiansen is very smart defensively, identifying the right moments to step up and put pressure on opponents or go for the ball when they lose control of it. When in possession, she does a good job of dribbling through traffic on her own half, helping the team break pressure. She’s not one to frequently get to the end line, but connects well with the attackers, often feeding them with accurate through balls.
