Prep Soccer will be following the action closely, covering as many matches as possible every week and providing reports featuring the players that had remarkable performances in those encounters. On Friday, our pick was the big match between the Katy Jordan Warriors and the Seven Lakes Spartans in Fulshear.
Katy Jordan 0 – 2 Seven Lakes
The Katy Jordan Warriors were one of only two teams to take points from the Seven Lakes Spartans in the UIL Division 6A – Region 3, District 19 and entered the field motivated to hand their opponents their first loss in district play.
The Spartans, however, were in control since the start of the game because of the great work done by midfielders Rebecca Romero and Wagoner Towsen Wagoner Towsen F TX and forward Haydan Erck. Halfway through the first half, defender Kathryn Lennon sent a long ball into Katy Jordan’s penalty box and midfielder Kennedy Reed Kennedy Reed D Seven Lakes | 2025 State TX got a slight touch on it to beat goalkeeper Madelyn Mech.
The Warriors tried to push forward, but despite some good runs from midfielder Natalie Vernier down the left and some combinations between midfielder Madison Lambert Madison Lambert F Jordan | 2024 TX and forward Kelsey Wallace, they were never able to match the Spartans’ possession.
Seven Lakes got their second goal early in the second half. After a good play from Erck down the left, the ball found Towsen outside the penalty box and the midfielder hit a beautiful curled shot to beat Mech and find the back of the net.
With three more district matches to play before the playoffs, the Spartans remain at the top of the standings and remain undefeated with 11 wins and two ties. The Warriors are third with eight wins, two losses and three ties.

Towsen dictated Seven Lakes’ rhythm from her midfield position. She made some good runs through the middle and always looked to feed her teammates up top or on the wings. Towsen had great efficiency with her passing and timed her through balls very well, often finding her teammates in good spots. She was also very good at making turns to create space and break the pressure. Despite scoring a beautiful goal with a great finish from outside the penalty box, the talented midfielder also worked hard on the defensive side of the game to win the ball back.
Reed appeared in three different positions during the 80 minutes of play and did very well in each of them. She started on the right side of the Spartans’ midfield and gave the team great intensity from there, using her pace to beat defenders and create chances. Her reading of the game was also excellent and she made some good runs into the penalty box, one of which resulted in the team’s first goal. Reed spent some minutes playing as a center back and was relly good in 1v1 duels and in possession. She ended the match playing right back and did great work on both sides of the ball.

Hill played an excellent match from her fullback position. She was deployed on the left during the first half and had some interesting battles with Katy Jordan’s winger Courtney Zapata. Hill did very well with that matchup, denying her the ball when she had a chance, but also remaining patient and composed in the 1v1 duels when her opponent was in possession. She also displayed some good offensive power by making quick runs forward and connecting good passes. Hill switched to the right during the second half and maintained the same intensity and efficiency.
Madelyn Mech
Madelyn Mech
Jordan could have had a rougher night if it wasn’t for Mech’s presence between the posts. With the Spartans strongly controlling possession, the goalkeeper was very demanded and responded well, keeping her team in the game with her play. Mech made at least three great saves and was also really solid when she had to collect crosses inside the penalty box. She also made some important runs to collect long passes and challenge opponents that had beaten her team’s defenders.
Katz displayed great versatility, being very solid with her play in the midfield, where she spent the first half, and the backline, where she was deployed in final 40 minutes. The freshman was really good in possession, connecting good passes through the middles and making good combination plays. She also made some good runs forward from her position. Katz was pushed to center back in the second half and helped stabilize Jordan’s defense with her solid play. She was strong in the air and made several interceptions with her excellent positioning.
