There are a number of new additions to the rankings among defenders with this update. Below is a scouting report on a few of the new names to the national rankings from that position.
Martin is a top center back from this class. She plays for Long Island SC in the Girls Academy. She is very comfortable on the ball in possession. She is confident enough to take players on with the ball at her feet. She is aggressive in her pursuit to win back possession of the ball for her side – there are some elements of her game that suggest she could be a great defensive midfielder as well. She matches up well against tall center forwards as she is not afraid to battle and has the long legs to poke the ball away from players trying to shield her off the ball. She is a good athlete who should do well at the next level.
Highlights
Petrie jumped off the screen from Connecticut FC ECNL games. She is a no non-sense type of center back. In a lot of ways, she is an ideal defender for the old school style of play: tough-nosed, direct, and loves to get stuck into a challenge. She fits in well with the modern game as well as she is calm on the ball and can be a facilitator in the build-up when asked to take that role. She WINS her aerial duels and offers that as a weapon on set pieces. She can play as either center back in a back four or even any spot in a back three thanks to her skill with either foot.
Mack is one of those players who stood out from a Girls Academy Talent ID event. She dominanted her minutes on the field and bossed her side of the field. She is an outside back who wins both sides of the ball. She is strong in the tackle and dynamic getting forward. She is a weapon on corner kicks as well as she hits a consistent, accurate service. Mack is one to watch in the future as she has the potential to be a top outside back in this class.
Highlights
Marzot is a left-footed left center back. It’s worth noting that she is playing on her dominant foot side as compared to a number of other left center backs in this class. Marzot stood out from the ECNL National Event in April. The scouting report from then highlighted her quality defensively against some of the most dynamic and talented attacking players in the country. Game film from the spring backs up that in-person scouting. Marzot is an outstanding defender. Smart, never dives in, and uses her technique to win 50/50 duels cleanly. She is a player that scouts in the Northeast should be well aware of, but her performances recently put her on the same level as some of the best defenders in the country.
Garrett is a forward/center back in her player profile. I think she is a right wing back at the next level. It’s the best position to utilize some of her elite attributes. She is a sprinter on the field. She has a number of clips that showcase her recovery speed. She battles well in duels and likes to get forward through combination play or overlapping runs. She is a very good attacking player who can be impactful off the ball as she does well with the timing of her runs to get on the end of crosses. Garrett’s quality shines in the ECNL.
