Prep Soccer has been following the action in the Houston area, covering multiple matches a week and reporting on them with photo galleries and player reports.
We’re also paying special attention to the new faces emerging in the region and will periodically list some of the most promising freshmen we’ve spotted on the field while covering the HS season. It’s time we know our fourth group of players:
Taylor Patterson
Taylor Patterson
Patterson joined Clear Springs as a freshman and immediately became the team’s starting goalkeeper, which speaks volumes about her quality and maturity – she’s been splitting time with fellow freshman Alexa Elizarraras, but gets most of the minutes available. With her between the posts, the Chargers went undefeated in district play, with just three goals allowed. Patterson is not very tall, but that doesn’t stop her from making good saves as she reads the game very well and is agile enough to react to anything happening in front of her. Patterson is also very quick to leave her position and step up to get in the way of opposing attackers who get to beat the team’s backline.
Lanie Junek
Lanie Junek
Junek has been splitting time between A&M Consolidated’s varsity and junior varsity teams this season and has been able to make an impact on both sides. An offensive-minded left back, she strongly contributes to the team’s playmaking with her runs through the flank. Junek plays with great intensity and has scored a lot of goals this season, taking advantage of her ability to bring the ball inside and finish with her preferred right foot. The outside back is also very solid defensively and can handle even the most dangerous wingers because of her ability to close passing lines and defend space.
Addison Donahoe
Addison Donahoe
Donahoe added a lot of intensity to Fulshear’s midfield, playing as a box-to-box midfielder for them in her freshman year. Her ability to cover ground is truly impressive as she has the ability to run for days, but actually does it in a very intelligent and efficient way, getting into good spots to influence the game. Donahoe is very good at dominating the center of the field and putting pressure on opponents, but is also effective in possession, connecting good passes and initiating the team’s offensive plays. She can also be used in a more advanced position, on the right, and has displayed great ability to make runs and finish chances.
A player with the skills to perform at a high level anywhere on the field, Maldonado has been playing more of an offensive role with Summer Creek in her freshman season – she typically appears at left back with her club team Challenge SC. The freshman has displayed great quality inside and around the penalty box, combining with junior Sohana Spencer Sohana Spencer null | F Summer Creek Highschool | 2025 State #277 Nation TX to lead the team’s offense with multiple goals and assists. Maldonado has the pace and the dribbling skills to beat opponents and create chances, but she’s also very good at finishing them inside the penalty box. Also watch out for her set pieces, which are always precise and dangerous.
Highlights
Naomi Medeiros
Naomi Medeiros
Medeiros has been a key piece in Tompkins’ offense in her first season with the team. She plays as the team’s striker and gets to contribute to the team’s attacking efficiency in a variety of ways. Medeiros has interesting physical tools and uses them to get on the end of long passes and hold the ball until her teammates come near her to make combination plays. The forward has good technical skills and knows how to create space in clogged areas of the field with her dribbling ability. She also has a strong presence inside the penalty box and has the physicality to battle defenders and the skills to finish chances with her feet and her head.
