ECNL Standouts - Game-Saving Goalkeepers

PHOENIX, Arizona - The goalkeeper position is often the most important for winning teams as the shot-stoppers are on an island with their responsibilities on the field. During the event in Arizona, there were a number of goalkeepers who stood out from the play for great play that showcased they are incredibly valuable to their teams. Below is a look at some of the best from the event.    <figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-medium"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2024/11/GraceAe-LAFCSoCal08.jpg?w=300" alt="" class="wp-image-272296"/></figure>   I thought Ae was the best goalkeeper I saw in Arizona (from the games scouted in person). After reviewing game film, I'll double down on that statement. Ae was nearly perfect in performances from Reach 11. Her level of communication and organization is unrivaled at the youth club level. She is playing with a ton of confidence right now and it's helping elevate her game to be among the best goalkeepers in the country.     <figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-medium"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2024/11/CamilleBarrett-Solar08.jpg?w=300" alt="" class="wp-image-272297"/></figure>   Playing up due to injuries, Barrett did an excellent job for the Solar side. She showed secure hands, confidence off her line, and excellent distribution. It was a difficult weekend for Solar with the shorthanded squad and the tough competition, but Barrett made the most of the chances and ended the event with a pair of wins.     <figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-medium"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2024/11/KileyanneBrewer-AFC08.jpg?w=300" alt="" class="wp-image-272303"/></figure>   Brewer was excellent during the Alabama FC game that I watched. Made a couple of good saves and did well getting to the ball on crosses in traffic. Her distribution was clean as well. Brewer has the physical profile to get on the radar of scouts. The athleticism stands out as well. She moves her feet well and shows good technique on her diving saves. Brewer had a strong showing in Arizona.     Steinhauer and the Hammerheads earned a scoreless draw against a talented Rebels on Saturday. She was active off her line. She had the confidence to get into traffic to secure the ball on a cross. She showed good technique when playing the ball out from her feet. Steinhauer has been a standout this season from the 2027 class.      <figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-medium"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2024/11/ReeseTremper-SoCalBlus08.jpg?w=300" alt="" class="wp-image-272298"/></figure>   Tremper was great in the victory over Sting Black. She was in goal with the sun in her eyes and did well navigating that challenging environment. She had an excellent punch away on a cross when she leapt above a crowd to clear the danger. She also made a clean save on a long-distance effort while I was watching the game.      Martinez was outstanding in goal for Legends in the game against Pleasanton Rage. She is excellent at reading the game and being active off her line. She adjusts her positioning constantly and gets to the right spots so that if the play develops she is already in the spot to make the play. Martinez showed off impressive distribution with her passing. Legends finished the event with 0 goals conceded.      Anca showed why she is a two-time National Champion with her play in Arizona. The Slammers 08 goalkeeper made a great diving save on a shot off a header from a corner kick. She has quick reactions and strong hands to keep the shot out. Her distribution was another strongpoint of her game.      Givens made a game-winning save on a penalty kick in the 3-2 win over Nationals on Sunday. The Rebels goalkeeper showed off her elite traits for the position with quick reactions, excellent technique, and sheer determination to make winning plays.     The Davis star was once again outstanding for her club side. She lead her team to two shutout victories from the event. McLin and her Davis side only conceded one goal from the event. She was exceptional at punching away services into the box.
