Dangerous forwards set to compete at I-10 Shootout

<p>The official start of the high school soccer season is just around the corner in Texas as teams from the Lone Star State have been testing themselves in scrimmages and non-district matches for weeks now, preparing for the beginning of actual competition in January.</p>   <p>Many tournaments are held at this time of the year as programs look for strong competition and this week one of the most popular of them on the girls' side, the I-10 Shootout, will take place across multiple locations in the Katy area. As many as 64 high school teams from the Houston area and beyond get on the field from Thursday to Saturday, competing in the eight brackets.</p>   <p>Prep Soccer Texas will be following the competition closely and reporting on the standouts, but before the ball rolls, let's take a look at some of the most talented prospects who will be representing their high school teams this week. Today we'll cover the last position, throwing some light on some of the most interesting forwards who will be in action:</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Cantu will be with Cy Woods in the Cougar Bracket, where they will play Kingwood in their opening match. She splits her time between the midfield and the attack and, regardless of where she is, will deliver a lot of intensity. Cantu is very explosive with her runs and is very difficult to stop when she has space because she's very direct with her runs. She's a goalscoring threat for them and an attacker who can create problems for anyone with her game. Lagor is extremely dangerous with her runs because she has excellent pace and ball control, but mostly because of her ability to change directions in a split second. She finishes well with either foot and is a lethal scorer from inside and around the penalty box.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Jzqe8f6L6c </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Taylor will lead St. Agnes Academy's offense in the Tiger Bracker, where they will play Lumberton in their first match. The striker has a great presence inside the penalty box and is always ready to finish chances with her feet of her head. Taylor is the focal point of St. Agnes' offense and makes tremendous holdup play for them, getting on the end of long passes to work with his back to the goal and combine with her teammates. She's a versatile player, who can play anywhere in the attack and I expect her to be used as a striker for Paetow, where her goalscoring ability can be better explored. Varela is very technical, intelligent and dynamic with the ball and does a great job of finding pockets of space to play. She is very strong in 1v1 plays, is very direct around the penalty box and doesn't hesitate in finishing chances when she has a good look.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a511YZFHaMU </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Lacombe plays for the George Ranch team that will appear in the Falcon Bracket, starting with a match against Fort Bend Elkins. She was an integral part of their attack in her freshman season and should have a much bigger role now. Lacombe thrives on the wings, where she can use her explosiveness and physicality to beat defenders and create chances. She uses both feet well and is somewhat unpredictable with her moves, keeping opposing defenders in their toes.
