ECNL – G08 Matchup featuring Davis Legacy at Bay Area Surf

It was a slight overcast, but still a beautiful day in San Jose, CA, at the Kathleen MacDonald High School Soccer Field. It hosts matches for the ECNL Girls Northern Cal 2024-2025 season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This G08 squad has a few college commits, but many are probably going to make their decisions in the next few months. This match featured some of Prep Soccer's Girls ID Camp: NorCal 2024 standouts. The three Davis Legacy players attending the camp in August 2024 at Los Altos Hills are [player_tooltip player_id='19134' first='Aubrey' last='McLin'], [player_tooltip player_id='206665' first='Maia' last='Goss'], and [player_tooltip player_id='203241' first='Holland' last='Sperber']. McLin was the goalkeeper who made a lot of saves as wave after wave of surf runs kept spilling in from the channels. She showed her range and technique by taking flight on one really close top left corner shot. Aubrey wasn't going to let that one get by as she covered one of the most difficult spots to score from. She definitely kept at least 4 goals off the board.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><a href="https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1901816144425812208">https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1901816144425812208</a></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Sperber played up top and provided high pressure and made a few quick and clean passes to runners slipping through the lanes. Her quick challenges in the attacking third caused a few Surf passes to go wide or cause win-backs. Goss played more in the midfield, and she made challenges between the lines and pushed defenders to the outside. The defensive play allowed her team to do recoveries and slow down the high-tempo Surf attack.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>On the Surf side, [player_tooltip player_id='172607' first='Elyssa' last='Hernandez'], the U17 Salvadoran National Team member and Seattle University D1 commit, played a solid game at the RCB position. Hernandez has a smooth change of direction move that can twist up hard-pressing opponents. She also makes clean and precise passes to nearly any spot on the pitch. One of her signature plays is sending a long ball right to the feet of her teammates or sending it perfectly behind the defense when they are running in full stride. They pushed the ball out wide and went back across the field and sent a low driving cross just past the reach of the goalkeeper. Ella just needed a toe poke to get to the back of the net.
