Prep Soccer Texas was in attendance and on Monday, April 14, we followed a handful of Boys' matches at both the Richland College and the Moneygram Soccer Park. With the tournament now concluded, we'd like to feature some of the players who made a strong impression in the matches we got to watch, and we start with the goalkeepers.

I got to watch Meraz when his team [program_tooltip program_id='283624' first='Capital' last='City SC'] U15 MLS Next defeated Canada's Woodbridge Soccer Club 2010 5-1. As the score indicates, the team from Austin had the ball for the vast majority of the time, but Meraz was ready to intervene when needed. He handled most shots fired by their opponents well, displaying good positioning between the posts and the ability to quickly go for the ball. The goalkeeper also did a good job of putting the ball into play with solid passing and accurate throws.

McCoy helped his team [program_tooltip program_id='283639' first='Dallas' last='Hornets'] 08B Beta secure a 2-1 win over AC Brea B08 EA2. The Hornets scored two in the first half and counted on him to preserve their lead in the final 45 minutes. McCoy was under heavy pressure for most of that period as the California side dominated possession and got the job done. His team's backline did a good job of protecting the penalty box, but the goalkeeper was called to action on some shots from outside the box and crosses and did well, using his length to make saves. He conceded one goal, but couldn't have done anything to avoid it as the finish came from just a couple of feet from the goal line.

Chostner played for the Solar SC 07/08 ECNL team that tied Bermuda's Cedar Bridge Academy 1-1. Solar were on the front foot in the second half as they were trailing, which made them more vulnerable to their opponents' transition plays. In one of their attempts, Chostner made a huge save, leaving his line to stop an attacker in a 1v1 play in which he did a great job of closing out his angle for a shot. The goalkeeper played very high up on the field, appearing well to collect loose balls and connect good passes, and communicated very well the entire time, keeping the team organized and engaged as it pushed for an equalizer.

Jurado was part of the [program_tooltip program_id='283624' first='Capital' last='City SC'] U16 MLS Next team that tied Hawaii Rush 09B East 1-1. It was a very open match, with solid goalscoring opportunities for both sides, and the goalkeeper came up big for his team with several stops. Jurado displayed remarkable technical skills to stop close-range shots and also handled the crosses sent into his team's penalty box well. He was very efficient with his feet and was very good at getting the ball to his teammates far up on the field with long and accurate throws.

Stover was in goal for [program_tooltip program_id='283648' first='FC' last='Dallas'] U15 MLS Next in their 3-0 win over Mexico's Global Sporting Club 2010. Although his team had the ball for most of the time, the goalkeeper needed to work on some occasions and did well. Stover used his length efficiently between the posts to stop shots into the upper corners and inside the box to deal with crosses. The goalkeeper worked well in possession, both connecting good passes with his left foot and making accurate deliveries with his hands too. Stover didn't keep the ball for too long and helped his team keep a steady rhythm in the game.
