USE THE PROMO CODE almasin30 for a discount on your first subscription

It was a beautiful day in San Francisco, California, for a USL W-League match. The match took place at the new stadium on Treasure Island. It features a main FIFA-certified 11v11 field as well as 5v5 training fields. The weather was perfect at a rising 60 degrees. The [program_tooltip program_id='283734' first='San' last='Francisco Glens'] SC have a rich tradition of creating a pathway to college and the pros. This semi-pro team has had many players move on to the pro level, with 25 pro contracts in 2023.

Their system of blending college players in with top-level high school players has proven to prepare these elite players for the next levels. In the match against the Olympic Club, the Glens fielded 6 starters who played their last high school match during the 2024/2025 season, with two players entering their junior year of HS (Savannah Liefried, 2027, and [player_tooltip player_id='146349' first='Francesca' last='Johnson'], 2027). The Olympic Club only had one high schooler on their roster for this match ([player_tooltip player_id='202653' first='Everleigh' last='Porter']—2028).

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1933985806546575732

The first 10 minutes of the match were relatively evenly played as both sides made quality runs at goal, but the defenses held their ground and made the necessary stops. The Glen's first goal came in the 12th minute of play as Jocelyn Travers (2025), the Duke commit, made an awesome run from her half of the field down the wing to get past a player and make a beautiful diagonal pass to the penalty spot. Travers also followed up with scoring goal #2 as she finished a shot in the box from Elle Piper, the recent Duke graduate.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1934105408031031708

The Duke commit made an awesome run from her half of the field down the wing to get past a player and make a beautiful diagonal pass to the penalty spot. Travers also followed up with scoring goal #2 as she finished a shot in the box from Elle Piper, the recent Duke graduate. Travers has played on youth national teams and it is safe to say that she will get more opportunities as well as looks at the pro trial levels. She is box-to-box player and she has the ability to break through defenses for quality shots on goal or making precise passes in the box.

Goals #3 and #4 for SF were by Alana Owens and Jessie Halladay. The halftime score was SF Glens 4 and Olympic Club 0. Olympic Club did have chances to get some goals on the board, but the stingy SF defense kept them in check, and also the goalkeeper made some critical saves to keep them off the board.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1934007967067844720

The second half had similar results as the SF Glens put up another 4 goals to make it 8-0 Glens. SF won a lot of matches in the channels, and the crisp passes to open players were the standard. Those high-percentage scoring opportunities were what Head Coach Heath Piper preached to his team. Time and time again, SF was able to capitalize on their strengths and finish in the box.

Jessie Halladay, the Cal Poly junior, scored a hat trick and was named the player of the match. She's using this opportunity to stay fit and prepare for her final year of college. She is definitely a big part of her team's success moving towards the final stretch of the season.

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DK-crwCzRW_/

SF Glens High School standouts were [player_tooltip player_id='99198' first='Savannah' last='Leifried'] (2027), Eloise Stone (2025), and [player_tooltip player_id='146349' first='Francesca' last='Johnson'] (2027). Leifried played as a right back as well as on the right wing. She made quality passes to players making runs to the box as well as runs in the channel. Her corner kicks found players in the box, and her change of speed got her into scoring positions for power shots on goal or to lay passes off to players in better positions. She also did well tracking back and closing down players making attempts at breaking the line.

Leifried played as a right back as well as on the right wing. She is great at making crisp passes and finding open pockets. Her quick passes can be attributed to her experience as a former futsal U16 USA youth national player. This is probably my 5th evaluation, and she seems to get better each outing. Porter will definitely use this experience to help her in a breakout sophomore season at Menlo School.

She is great at making crisp passes and finding open pockets.
