On Tuesday, January 13, we attended a Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) league matchup at Episcopal High School, in Houston, which had the three-time defending champions Episcopal Knights facing the Kinkaid Falcons. With a goal in the last minute of the match, Episcopal triumphed 1-0.

It was an intense and physical game, which had players from both teams sent off. Episcopal were down a man for just over 40 minutes, after junior midfielder [player_tooltip player_id='338118' first='Sebastian' last='Guerra'] saw a red card in the 20th minute of the first half. Kinkaid had sophomore defender Max Mullervy removed in the 24th minute of the second half. The game-winning goal was scored in the last minute of action, when junior defender Eli Holloway rose above everyone else after a long throw-in into the box and saw his header go in.

The senior center back was very solid in the backline and helped Episcopal produce a clean sheet despite being a man down for about half of the match. Playing on the left, Holzhauser displayed great chemistry with fellow center back [player_tooltip player_id='190975' first='Marlon' last='Flores-Martinez'] as both of them made key defensive plays during the match. A lefty, he was also heavily involved in the team's buildup, passing the ball intelligently out of the back and helping Episcopal beat Kinkaid's press. Holzhauser created some goal-scoring opportunities by sending long throw-ins into the Falcons' box, and one of them resulted in the game-winning goal.

The junior was part of Episcopal's tight backline that sustained the pressure to end the match unharmed. Playing as a right back, Holloway wasn't able to push forward as much as he typically does, but still managed to score the game-winning goal using his height to win an aerial duel. He was very solid defensively, using his big frame to control the space in front of him and make strong defensive plays. Holloway also took good care of the ball, helping his team maintain possession and engaging in quick passing exchanges on the right side of the field.

The sophomore worked very hard in midfield and helped Episcopal remain competitive in the match despite being a man down for nearly half of it. Baltodano and fellow central midfielder Giovanni Garcia covered a lot of ground and managed to match the intensity of Kinkaid's more physical midfielders, despite being outnumbered on some occasions. He also made nice plays on the ball, creating space with quick moves and being efficient and intelligent with most of his passes. Baltodano left the match injured in the final portion of the second half.

The senior had a strong performance at left back, appearing well on both sides of the ball. Lynch was extremely reliable defensively, stopping every Kinkaid attempt on his zone and making some nice defensive plays further up on the field. He did a good job of staying wide and helping Episcopal stretch the field when they had the ball, making it easier for them to keep possession against a team that was up a player. The outside back did well every time he pushed forward and made some nice plays out wide in the final minutes of the match, drawing a dangerous foul on the edge of the box.

The sophomore midfielder was very good for Kinkaid, having an active role in the center of the field for them. Tall and physical, Niyubahwe won many duels and was very difficult to dispossess, using his big frame to shield the ball. He also did good work on the ball, connecting the vast majority of his passes. The sophomore showed great tactical intelligence as well, sliding to the right to support the team's buildup and dropping to the backline when the team's right back pushed up. He was moved to central defense after Mullervy was sent off and continued to perform well.

The junior was excellent in the backline for Kinkaid, handling well every Episcopal offensive push during the entire match. A left-sided center back, Cook was very effective at winning duels and used his pace and positioning to deal with transition plays made by the opponents, quickly dismantling them. The center back got on the ball a lot when his team was up a player and did a good job of supporting the offense, stepping into the attacking half and passing the ball well, occasionally attempting long passes behind the backline with some success.

The sophomore was Kinkaid's most advanced player on the field and, even though he didn't have a clear opportunity to score, managed to keep Episcopal's backline under pressure. Jett displayed a strong work rate to drift wide and chase long balls, but also worked with his back to the goal, facilitating plays for his teammates. The forward was also very active at pressing opposing center backs and won the ball in the attacking half on a couple of occasions, generating good moments for his team.
