ECNL Conference Cup Mid-Atlantic Roster: Key Talent

The ECNL Conference Cup is a prestigious event featuring 120 of the best players from the nation-wide league. The annual event is held in Southern California this year with the 2007 through 2009 age groups in the spotlight.    The Mid-Atlantic roster for the ECNL Conference Cup features six players from the 2027 class as the young guns of the event are looking to make some noise. The experience of Y-Lan Nguyen will be key for this group as they battle against the Best of the Best in Chula Vista next week.    Check out a scouting report on some of the names to know from this group.     The goalkeeper from NC Fusion already has some experience playing against older competition at the U19 and U20 level. The sure hands and leadership qualities should be on full display at this event. Markey's footwork is excellent and a point that other goalkeepers should watch on her highlight reel. She adjusts quickly and has the strong base to always be ready to make an attempt at a save or athletic stance to shift approach on a redirection. The excellent technique on the footwork also shows when the ball is at her feet. She rarely gets crossed up and can be a weapon in possession with her distribution. She has been a key part of that team's success over the years and gets a chance to compete against the best of the best. Sharrer played as the left center back in a back three for Richmond during the playoffs. She can feature anywhere in the backline or as a defensive midfielder. I think she's the best in one of the center back roles. She has the physical profile to be an elite prospect for the college game. Her decision-making on the ball impressed me as she put a priority on keeping possession for her side and did well in finding teammates feet with clean passes. I think this event will be great for Sharrer as she will get tested against a variety of forwards that will help her improve her defensive qualities to get ready for the 2024/2025 club season.      Koppers is one of the players who has improved her stock the most this summer. The VDA defender was outstanding during the ECNL Playoffs for VDA 09. The highlight reel is already out there and it's hard to imagine another center back putting together a better string of games. Koppers' upside is obvious, which is why she is decorated at the club and high school level. The part of her game that impressed me most from game film was the elite anticipation and feel for the game. She just always seems to be a step ahead of everyone else. She made headlines last year for her play at the U19 level that earned her a spot on the Best XI team for the USL Academy Cup, while playing up a number of years. She scored three goals at that event. She impressed during the ECNL playoffs in June. Wyshner is a center forward who likes to be involved in the play. She can drifted a bit to get touches but she is highly effective when she gets on the ball and quick to spring the attack. She has pace to get behind the defense. She runs like she is mad at the ground and puts the defenders in her dust. She is a playmaker in the final third on top of being an elite finisher. Wyshner will be one scouts will be eyeing at this event after her past season of constant improvement and success.      Van Der Weide is a big time prospect and one of the names to know from this event. The VDA standout is part of the Youth National Team program. She is listed as a forward on this roster, but she can be an attacking midfielder as well. She is smooth on the ball and comfortable with either foot. She is a great finisher with either foot which makes her such a dynamic and dangerous player. Her quick feet, good balance, and excellent technique on the ball are all trademark characteristics of a player who will make a statement in a best of the best event like this.
