ECNL G10 – MVLA scored 7 unanswered goals

<p>USE THE PROMO CODE almasin30 for a discount on your first subscription</p>   <p><br>It was another beautiful day in Los Altos Hills, California, for Week #5 Spring ECNL soccer matchups. With my second match of the day, [program_tooltip program_id='283433' first='Placer' last='United'] G10 took on the MVLA G10 at the Foothill College Soccer Field. It was a slightly warm 68 degrees around game time. </p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1914178965952184486 </div></figure>   <p>MVLA came in at 1st place with a record of 17-1-1, and Placer was in 6th place at 8-10-2. Both teams played a previous match in September, and MVLA won convincingly. MVLA has a super impressive goals scored of 109 to goals conceded of 8 coming into this match (19 games). The average of goals scored is at 5.7 per match, which is simply unheard of. With that to boot, MVLA also has two really good goalkeepers. [player_tooltip player_id='206658' first='Areya-Sol' last='Garcia'] was a standout at our Prep Soccer Girls ID Camp: NorCal 2024, and she kept a clean sheet in the first half. In the 2nd half, [player_tooltip player_id='199882' first='Vivian' last='Baker'] also prevented Placer from getting a goal on the board. Baker was the 2025 WCAL (West Catholic Athletic League) Goalkeeper of the Year. She was part of Archbishop Mitty's success as they made it to the CCS and NorCal final matches.</p>   <p>The match started off with both teams making runs down the channels while looking for open lanes in the midfield. After the first 9 minutes of play, Sloane Parenti got MVLA their first goal of the match.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1914129178334732508 </div></figure>   <p>Both teams started to make changes to adjust to or counter each other's formations and players. At the 27th minute mark, Parenti got her second goal after receiving it in the attacking third. She dribbled past 2 defenders before sending it to the left side of the goal. Thus, the score at half was MVLA at 2-0.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1914130470683779086 </div></figure>   <p>Not sure what was said during the halftime prep talk, but MVLA came out inspired and ready to go. They got their 3rd goal in the opening minute of the second half.   It was an awesome passing sequence, as it started from the mid, went back to GK [player_tooltip player_id='199882' first='Vivian' last='Baker'] before moving back up to a Jaina Nguyen finish. Also, Jaina got goal #4 at the 55th minute mark as she received the ball in the 18 and zipped past a defender before placing the ball to the left side post. The MVLA was about to put on a passing and finishing clinic.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1914158724664762820 </div></figure>   <p>Goal #5 for MVLA was also a beauty as it started when CB [player_tooltip player_id='199889' first='Tori' last='Williams'] made a clean stop in the back.  The ball was then played forward to Sloane and she shook off a player before making a cut, then ripping past the goalkeeper.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1914137944916672973 </div></figure>   <p>Goal #6 for MVLA was a textbook drive from the wing, then angled in towards the penalty area before sending it across to beat the keeper. Jaina Nguyen got her third goal of the match as she perfectly timed her run and got to the open space for a tapped-in goal.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1914139432204353826 </div></figure>   <p>Goal #7 for MVLA came from a penalty kick. Parenti got her fourth goal of the game by sending it low to the left corner. That definitely put a punctuation mark on the match and solidified MVLA's dominating lead in first place.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1914140525680357776 </div></figure>   <p>Some of the Placer standouts were Alyssa Buch #11 (M), Rylie Staples #5 (M), and Tatum Kelly #18 (D). Despite being under pressure by the MVLA attack for the majority of the second half, these players did not give up, and they played hard and cheered each other on throughout the match.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Did not shy away from the ball. Despite falling behind in the second half, she showed determination by making challenges in the midfield and dropping back to support on defense.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Made some good connecting passes. She played on both ends of the field. Mainly supporting on the defense end while trying to slow down the MVLA attack. She can also make runs at the goal when transitioning.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Despite being down in the second half by multiple goals, she kept the defense going. They didn't give up and made some good stops in their defensive third. Tatum made some clean saves outside the 18 and she didn't back down when MVLA made runs down the middle. She was Placer's best defender in the match.</p>    <p>Other MVLA standouts include Jordan Bellotti, [player_tooltip player_id='199889' first='Tori' last='Williams'], and [player_tooltip player_id='187366' first='Kiyomi' last='Yoshimura']. Bellotti and Williams were the center backs who locked down the defense and kept the Placer offense in check. Bellotti and Williams seem to have good chemistry, as they easily found each other when making passes from the backline, and they were good at covering when one would push up on offense.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Yoshimura was exceptionally calm and collective in the mid.  She orchestrated most of the MVLA runs on offense.  Her passing skills and ability to scan gives her a distinct advantage when finding runners near or in the box.  She also is great at working in tight spaces and can easily cut back and get by multiple defenders before making a pass or firing a shot on goal.  With all the firepower at her disposal in this match, she didn't have to rely on her finishing skills.<br></p>     <p class="text-gray-700">She has really good passing skills and she makes good decisions when making challenges. She has good chemistry with the other CB as they always seem to know where the other is and were good at covering when one would push up on offense. She is a big part of the defenses success. Bellotti and Williams played lockdown defense with their team only conceding 8 goals in 20 matches.<br></p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Jaina's ability to find open pockets allowed her to slip in between the defense and time her runs on goal. She scored three goals on the match and also was able to make precise passes during combination passes from their half all the way up into the 18. I enjoyed watching her weave through the defensive without the ball before finding an opening to receive and finish. She has a very good soccer IQ.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">She had a dominating performance as she scored 4 of MVLA's 7 goals. Her ability to get by the defense with cut moves or by simply outrunning them was a sight to see. She even got an assist on the day, by running down the sideline before angling in to make a cross in the penalty area. She also showed her strength by shaking off defenders and completing the play without looking for a foul.
