Boys' Class of 2028 Standout Defensive Players: Piedmont Region

Whenever the ball is in the box, he does the most he can to get to it first. This is true for most scenarios, but especially with crosses. He claims crosses calmly every time he comes off his line. This sort of confidence is what makes him such a secure keeper. His diving is also fantastic. Because he's quick, both mentally and physically, he gets to shots that would normally be difficult to get to.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Edgar is one of the most promising keepers in the state of any class. He combines many crucial goalkeeping attributes that make him very reliable. He's also a rare case of a goalkeeper who is fun to watch. Immediately, you notice how quick he is. His reflexes are unbelievable, making saves off shots that come almost out of nowhere, or in difficult positions. If he parries the shot, he bolts quickly to try and get it under control before someone gets the rebound. His shot-stopping is already phenomenal as it is, but he adds the ability to make saves with his feet on top of it. He is constantly determined to steal the show positively when he's called upon.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Defenders</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Wilmer is one of the most talented defensive players in his class. He now plays for North Carolina FC after playing a few years for [program_tooltip program_id='283629' first='Charlotte' last='FC']. In both clubs, he has shown to be a versatile, talented, and effective player. As a right back, he allows his team to attack dangerously. His attacking awareness is exactly what his team needs from out wide or in the channels, depending on his role. As a stopper, which he hasn't played in as much, he shows how strong he is. He rarely needs to go to ground because of his strong stand tackles. As a defensive midfielder, he combines both the agility needed to play out wide and the strength needed to defend and applies them perfectly to the role. He offers directness and clarity centrally, with great vision and a strong shot as well.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Jeremiah is one of the most promising defenders in the country, as shown by his multiple appearances for the youth national teams. He has also made his professional debut for Crown Legacy in the MLS Next Pro. He is a defender who can play as either a center back or a right back. His defensive capabilities are unreal. He's strong in his tackles, especially his slide tackles. They're clean but decisive, cutting attacks short dominantly. His ball-playing is also superb. Playing out from the back or playing from out wide is no problem for his team when he's on the pitch. Another very welcome attribute is his shooting. He doesn't take many, but the ones he does take are of very high quality.</p>
