One of the most popular and exciting high school tournaments in the state of Texas, the I-10 Shootout has started on Thursday, with as many as 32 matches taking place across eight high school campuses in the Katy area and each of the 64 varsity teams that form the field getting to play once.

The high school teams are split into eight brackets and each of them will have its final on Saturday. The first day of the tournament had the first-round matches, with winners advancing and losers moving to the consolation brackets.

Prep Soccer was in attendance for two of those encounters and here's what we saw:

MEMORIAL 4 - 1 FRIENDSWOOD

Considered one of the strongest teams in the Houston area, the Memorial Mustangs confirmed the expectations with an emphatic 4-1 victory over the Friendswood Mustangs at the Katy Seven Lakes High School at the start of the afternoon.

All five goals happened in the opening half and the first of them was scored by Memorial's senior fullback Cate Biar, who found the back of the net with an unlikely long-distance shot. The Mustangs were very strong in set pieces and scored twice from corner kicks - senior midfielder Logan Patterson was assisted by freshman midfielder [player_tooltip player_id='150822' first='Talia' last='Camin'] to score the first and senior defender [player_tooltip player_id='26383' first='Adelhia' last='Ghonda'] got the second.

Ghonda assisted senior forward Zoe Seely on Memorial's fourth goal while Friendswood got their only goal with junior midfielder Brynn Farrar right before the end of the first half.

https://x.com/grtorres/status/1613650726747791361?s=20&t=jd4jc-hybFTpwg46rxl1LQ

Players of the Match

https://x.com/grtorres/status/1613664780874665984?s=20&t=jd4jc-hybFTpwg46rxl1LQ

<!-- wp:acf/evaluation-block {"name":"acf/evaluation-block","data":{"player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":["not_in_db"],"_player_evaluations_0_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_0_player_details_selected_featured_image":"","_player_evaluations_0_player_details_selected_featured_image":"field_62cca28ffa4e7","player_evaluations_0_player_details_player_name":"[player_tooltip player_id='26458' first='Andrea' last='Delgado']","_player_evaluations_0_player_details_player_name":"field_62aba4c9ecf2f","player_evaluations_0_player_details_graduating_class":"2025","_player_evaluations_0_player_details_graduating_class":"field_62aba4ddecf30","player_evaluations_0_player_details_height":"null","_player_evaluations_0_player_details_height":"field_62aba4e8ecf31","player_evaluations_0_player_details_position":"103","_player_evaluations_0_player_details_position":"field_62aba4f0ecf32","player_evaluations_0_player_details_school":"Atascocita","_player_evaluations_0_player_details_school":"field_62aba4fdecf33","player_evaluations_0_player_details_club_team":"Challenge FC","_player_evaluations_0_player_details_club_team":"field_62d20e723441a","player_evaluations_0_player_details":"","_player_evaluations_0_player_details":"field_62aba4afecf2e","player_evaluations_0_evaluation":"A defender with her club team Challenge SC, Delgado was used further up the field with Atascocita and was the team's top player on the field. She roamed around the penalty box looking for open spaces and showed an interesting ability to create from anywhere on the attacking third. Friday displayed good pace and an intriguing dribbling ability in her solo runs, but also had good moments when combining with her teammates through the middle - she could never find a good look to finish, though.
