Colleyville Heritage’s freshman forward was one of the sensations of the State Tournament, emerging as one of the most productive players in all divisions. Shimmick carried her team’s offense with four goals scored in two matches and left a very strong impression in her first appearance. She scored the team’s second and third goals against Hendrickson in the semifinals, one of them in a 40-yard free kick shot. The freshman brought her team back to life in the Championship Game with two goals scored in the last four minutes, taking advantage of the only opportunities she had in the match.

Typically used as a left back, Shimmick was recently in a camp with the US U15 National Team. She’s a very complete and well-rounded player, who gets to contribute on both sides of the ball. Shimmick plays hard on defense and uses her excellent tackling and great positioning to shut down wingers. She’s also talented going forward, dribbling in tight spaces and displaying good quality with both feet to make plays, pass and cross the ball. In the Texas Cup, she assisted in one of Solar’s goals in the semifinal.

Prep Soccer Lead Scout

Shimmick is a utility player who could fit in a number of roles for Solar SC 09 ECNL. I’ve seen her play left back for Solar and I thought she was excellent in that role. She did not give up an inch to the winger and had a couple of steals on nice defensive plays. She also did well in the attack. She had one cross with her right foot and then came back down and hit a cross with her left foot. I didn’t notice Shimmick in Solar’s most recent ECNL games, but she was really outstanding during the preseason.
