Vanstone is a goalkeeper on the San Diego Surf 2010/2011 ECNL team, the two-time ECNL National Champions. Her play at the start of the season was a highlight of the action in the ECNL Southwest, and a reason her squad will be contending for another late postseason run.

Vanstone is a fearless player in goal who has caught the eye of scouts for some time. She’s been a regular call-up to the Youth National Team Talent ID camps and earned some attention from professional clubs as well.

She is one of the top players in the country in her position with her quickness, shot-stopping ability, and competitive drive.

Vanstone had some excellent saves in the shutout victory over Utah Royals AZ over the weekend. The Surf goalkeeper did well in net to secure the result for her side with a clean sheet.

Vanstone is the goalkeeper on the San Diego Surf 2011 ECNL team. She is also part of the US Youth National Team. She was called in the U14 Girls National Team ID Camp last year. Vanstone has a lot of strengths to her game, but the first that should be mentioned is her distribution and decision-making. She is a key player for Surf because she is the start of the attack. She gets the ball out of her hands quickly when the opportunity is available to start the counter. She is also excellent on breakaways. Given the possession-dominant style of Surf, there aren’t many times she is called into action during a regular game, but she is capable of making the save when needed. Vanstone has been excellent for her club side over the past year and some.

Vanstone is one of the top goalkeepers in the country in the 2011 age group. She might not get the credit she deserves playing behind the stellar San Diego Surf backline, but she is just as capable as any goalkeeper to make the game-deciding save.

Vanstone’s quality absolutely shines in the distribution part of the game. She’s an excellent passer – regardless of position. With the heavy emphasis on goalkeepers who can play with the ball at their feet, she fits that player profile perfectly.
