Guilherme Torres | Prep Soccer Scout
Serna was a key piece in the Dynamo’s midfield, bringing good dynamism and quality on the ball for the team. He started the match as a center midfielder, playing next to Shannon, and was then pushed forward to more of an attacking role. The left-footed playmaker was excellent in possession, finding great passes, many of them first-time ones, and having a big impact on his team’s chance-creation. Serna did very well in tracking Choate’s cross to score his team’s second goal and provided great service in set pieces, assisting Anumele in the third goal with an accurate delivery.

Playing left back, Serna had a solid performance for the Rangers. His defensive game was extremely strong as the defender was excellent at reading plays to tackle opponents or intercept their passes, not allowing much to happen on his side of the field. He didn’t appear in the final third very often, but still played a significant role in the team’s offense with his passing and distribution. Serna also did a great job in set pieces, sending dangerous crosses into the Dynamo’s penalty box.

Serna and his Houston Rangers U15 team will compete against Breakers FC, RSL Arizona and San Francisco Glen SC. A lefty, he’s easily the team’s most creative player and almost everything the Rangers do offensively goes through him. Serna is very dynamic on the ball and can hurt defenses in a variety of ways. He’s an elite passer, combining vision and precision, and is also very difficult to stop when progressing the ball, be it by beating opponents off the dribble or combining with his teammates. Serna is fantastic in set pieces and turns every dead-ball situation into a goalscoring opportunity for his team.
