Guilherme Torres | Prep Soccer Scout
The attacking midfielder had a central role in the Rangers’ playmaking. Hernandez got on the ball a lot in the first half and was very effective at beating opponents off the dribble to create space and using his vision to pick the right passing options and help them create attacking plays. He was more closely defended in the second half and adjusted well, moving intelligently off the ball and using first-time passes to avoid pressure. Hernandez was accurate with his set-piece deliveries and kept his intensity level high the entire time.

Originally an attacking midfielder, Hernandez started the match on the right side of the Rangers’ backline. There, he not only showed some solid defensive instincts and determination, but also added a nice level of quality to their buildup. He moved to the left side of their midfield after the halftime break and was very active, going at defenders 1v1 out wide and coming inside to get on the ball and connect accurate diagonal passes. Hernandez was very opportunistic to pick the rebound of a free kick attempt that hit the wall to score the team’s third goal and make good plays on the left, combining with his teammates and finding them with smart passes.

The midfielder was the Rangers’ most consistent player throughout the match, and most of his team’s offensive plays went through him. Hernandez started the match in the attacking midfielder role, and, despite his constant movement to get on the ball, he was always under pressure when in possession. He dropped to defensive midfielder in the second half and managed to make a bigger impact on the game from there, distributing the ball intelligently and setting up plays. Hernandez was very precise with his long passes and assisted in both of his team’s goals.
