Generation Adidas Cup Team Preview: Houston Dynamo U16
In this article:
One of the most anticipated moments of the MLS Next season has arrived, as starting this weekend, academies from all over the U.S. and Canada and international opponents will compete in the highly prestigious Generation Adidas Cup.
The tournament will have 40 teams competing in each of the U15 and U16 divisions at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, from March 27 to April 4 in what should be one of the highlights of the season. Teams were split into ten groups of four, and the best 16 (the ten pool winners and the six best second-placed teams) will advance to the playoffs.
The three MLS teams from the state of Texas will be represented in the tournament, and we'll preview each of them ahead of the opening day.

Players to Watch
Houston's starting right back, Fitzsimons is also the team's captain. He's an attacking-minded outside back who offers a lot offensively with his ability to combine with teammates and provide great service into the penalty box. Fitzsimons is very good at reading the space in front of him and figuring out how to move on and off the ball to best take advantage of it. He is excellent in set pieces and uses his six-foot frame to win duels in the air in both penalty boxes, often scoring in headers. The right back also does well defensively, showing good commitment and determination to stop opponents and never giving up when he's beaten.
Highlights

A left-footed center back, Bowman is one of four solid options the Dynamo have in central defense. His defensive game is built around his ability to read and anticipate plays, which allows him to constantly intercept passes and block shots, but he also holds his own in physical duels. Bowman is particularly good in the air, appearing in the right spot to clear crosses with his head and frequently scoring on offense after corner kicks and free kicks. The defender has good quality in his left foot and actively takes part in the team's buildup, moving the ball confidently and efficiently out of the back.
Highlights
A well-rounded central midfielder, Yurong brings a lot of balance and effectiveness to the Dynamo's game. His game is always very consistent and efficient, giving the team a reliable piece in a key area of the field. Yurong is very active defensively and does a good job of shielding the team's backline with good intensity and strong actions for the ball. He's also very efficient in possession, moving the ball quickly and intelligently, and likes to step into the final third to support the offense when he has a chance.
