Guilherme Torres | Prep Soccer Scout
Shannon played for the Houston Dynamo team that ended up in third place in Group A with a win, a loss and a tie. He’s very intense and consistent in his box-to-box role and leads their midfield trio on both sides of the ball. Shannon does well defensively, making an impact with his clean, well-timed tackles and managing to stop attacking plays from opponents. He also appears well when he steps into the attacking half to make plays, distributing the ball intelligently and firing shots on goal. Shannon is very accurate with his penalty kick shots, converting the vast majority of them.

‘ midfielders never had much time or space on the ball, struggling to create organized attacking plays. Shannon was very good at reading plays, too, often being the first to get to second balls and showing impressive quickness to intercept passes. He also offered good offensive support, taking the ball into the final third with direct, aggressive runs, and showing the vision and patience to move it around as the Dynamo looked to find gaps in the opposing backline. He also showed calm and composure to convert a penalty kick in a key moment of the match.

Shannon’s impressive intensity in midfield was huge for the Dynamo and helped them control the game. He was very alert defensively, always popping up close to the ball and stepping up to make strong defensive plays, intercepting passes and winning duels. Shannon also appeared well in possession, getting on the ball a lot and doing a great job of taking it forward with intelligent passes and direct runs. He had more luck than competence to score the team’s first goal, but he deserves credit for following up on his PK shot and sending it into the back of the net.
