Expert Analysis
Guilherme Torres | Prep Soccer Scout
Ahrens played for the Houston Dynamo side that was third in Group A with a win, a loss and a tie. He’s mostly used as a right winger, but spent some time playing more centrally in Frisco and was very dangerous closer to the goal. Ahrens is a very intelligent attacking player who manages to explore every inch given up by opposing defenders using his pace to make strong, wide and diagonal runs on and off the ball. He’s very good at getting into dangerous spots inside the box to finish chances and is very calm in front of the goal.

Ahrens’s ability to make plays in the final third was decisive for the Dynamo, as the right winger was involved in both goals scored by his team. He made it past his marker with a quick move before being taken down to draw a penalty kick and showed great resilience and calm in front of the goal to score the game-winning goal. Ahrens was very active on the right side of the Dynamo’s offense, going at defenders in 1v1 players and combining well with right back

Playing as a wide midfielder, Ahrens was very intense throughout the match, appearing in different areas of the field. We spent time on both sides, but had the freedom to move in the attacking half and used it well to attack vulnerable spots. He made some very good runs on the ball during the second half, moving very quickly in the open field, and drew some fouls, helping his team slow things down and preserve their lead. Ahrens also appeared well inside the penalty box, firing a dangerous shot near the end of the match, and was very disciplined in tracking back and helping on defense.

as the two combined to successfully contain the left side of Austin’s offense. Besides remaining disciplined to track back and help on defense, Ahrens had good energy to support the attack, and he did so with smart combination plays out wide and strong runs through the middle, also getting in good spots inside the penalty box. The midfielder was very intelligent when assisting Munoz for his team’s second goal, making the right choice with his passing and releasing the ball at the right time.

Ahrens captained the Houston Rangers U15 team for most of the season and was one of the team’s standouts. A terrific all-around player, he contributed in many different spots and ways in their campaign, but spent most of the time playing in wider spots, be it in midfield or as a wing back. Ahrens is very aggressive in possession and is excellent at taking the ball to the end line, but can also make a difference with his goalscoring ability and his passing vision. He also makes an impact on defense, playing with great determination and keeping opponents under pressure. His great play was recognized during the season as he moved to the Houston Dynamo in March and continued to stand out there.

Ahrens was the Rangers’ most active player on the field, appearing in different areas of the field and playing with tremendous intensity. He was used as a right midfielder in the first half and had the team’s best chance to score, displaying great intelligence to intercept a pass and sprint forward, but his shot was a few inches wide – he also appeared well in wide spots to make crosses on some occasions. Ahrens moved to central midfield in the second half and became even more involved in the team’s game. He made an excellent play in the team’s goal, combining determination to win a duel and quality and vision to assist Gonzalez with an excellent through ball.

Playing as a left wing back, Ahrens displayed good energy and quality on the ball. He was involved in the Rangers’ best moments in the match, scoring the team’s goal and appearing inside the penalty box to finish on a few occasions. In the goal, he did a great job of reading the path of the ball after a long free kick and attacking it with his head before it got into the range of the Dynamo goalkeeper. Ahrens also worked hard on defense a.nd had some nice battles with the Dynamos’ right back
