Perez ranks ninth among the defenders selected and 25th overall in the new Texas Rankings. He plays as a center back for the Houston Dynamo in the MLS Next League. Perez is mostly known for his physical presence inside the box and firmness when getting into duels, but has been gradually developing other areas of his game. He’s very aggressive with how he keeps opponents under pressure outside the penalty box and has impeccable timing with his sliding tackles. Perez’s aerial ability often results in goals scored off headers in attacking set pieces.

Perez formed a strong defensive duo with Jason Anumele Jason Anumele 6'2" | D State TX , as the two center backs combined to keep GFI’s offense quiet for most of the match. Playing as a right-sided center back, he was very good at winning physical duels, but also stood out for his positioning, stepping up to intercept passes and making stops. Perez was particularly successful with his sliding tackles, timing his action extremely well – he used them to block a pair of what could have been dangerous shots by GFI inside the box. The defender also demonstrated quality in possession, passing the ball efficiently out of the back and stepping into the attacking half with it.

Perez anchored the Dynamo’s backline and helped the team produce a strong defensive display. Fellow center back Will Moddelmog Will Moddelmog D State TX and he were both very solid, defending well inside the penalty box and further up in the field, keeping the Rangers’ attackers under constant pressure. Perez was particularly important in the final minutes of the second half, when the Rangers insisted on long passes and crosses, which he was very successful at clearing with headers. The defender also had an efficient game in possession, connecting his passes out of the back.
