The update to the rankings come after extensive scouting from the club events during the summer and fall, as well as scouting from some high school events during the winter.
Below is a scouting report on some of the new faces to this update to the rankings.
There was no doubt that Chaney was going to be added to this list after her showing at the ECNL National Event in Phoenix. The spoiler alert is that scouts who aren’t aware of the Texans star now are too late to the party. She is going to be an early target for top programs in June. The reason why is partly the physical attributes – size and strength to battle any defender – but it’s a lot of the intangibles. She scores goals that come from sheer determination. She also scores goals that showcase how smart she is as a player. Chaney’s form at the club level has carried over to the high school game. She is routinely scoring multiple goals per game for Flower Mound.
Chen was underrated in the initial rankings, and this adjustment gives some credit to one of the best outside backs in the country. Chen is a complete player at left back – and one of the only 2025s playing consistent minutes with the top team in the Texas Conference 06 age group standings. She is a competitive in 1v1 duels. She has excellent technique in on-ground challenges. In possession, she does well in connecting passes to her teammates and moving without the ball. Chen offers a solid foundation in every attribute that scouts want from a left back.
Martinez is a silky smooth center midfielder who has earned a starring role with the FC Dallas 07 team. She is crafty on the ball and has excellent field awareness. She is always scanning and finding open windows for passes to her teammates. Martinez has added a bit more finishing to her game during this high school season as it seems like she is contributing with a goal in all of Keller Central’s games recently.
Spencer might be one of the most underrated players in Texas. I’ve seen her play for both high school and club – and I think she has been overlooked by many up until this point. When she plays at the high school level, it almost seems unfair. She freezes defenders with her close control and then she throws them off balance with a move and bursts past with her pace. She has excellent ball striking technique – albeit she does like to have the ball on her right foot when lacing one from outside of the box.
Highlights
The goalkeeper position in this class is a bit of an enigma. There is quality, but it doesn’t feel like there is much separation between many of the goalkeepers. Murphy is the one knocking on the door as the No. 2 in the position rankings. The DKSC standout is quick off her line, athletic, and plays with a chip on her shoulder. The knock on Murphy is that she can be over reliant on the acrobatic save. She will often go for the diving tip when it looks like she might be able to control the shot with both hands. It’s a small thing, and likely an area that will improve as she continues to get more comfortable with the goal. She has shown that she can pull off the big time save at both the club and high school level.
