It was a beautiful day in Los Altos Hills, California, for an ECNL G10 finale for MVLA. This was my third match of the day, as [program_tooltip program_id='283257' first='Bay' last='Area Surf'] took on MVLA at Foothill College's soccer field. It was a rising 78 degrees around game time.

Surf came in at 2nd place with a record of 16-4-3, and MVLA was in 1st place at 21-1-2. Both teams played a previous match in November, and MVLA squeaked by with a 2-1 win. It was a super competitive match as the Bay Area Rivalry and playoff implications were on the line. Many players have switched sides before, but a recent roster move from another top bay area club had players and fans talking. Nevertheless, both teams battled it out and at the end, MVLA was victorious and won the conference championship on their last match of the season by the same previous score 2-1.

MVLA scored 2 goals in the first half as the first came in the 24th minute and the second during the last minute of the half. The second goal by Olivia Peters (2029) had a great buildup. [player_tooltip player_id='187366' first='Kiyomi' last='Yoshimura'] placed a perfect slip pass to Peters making a run in the box. Peters chipped the ball over the goalkeeper as she attempted to make a challenge.

Both MVLA goalkeepers did well in making key saves to ensure their team's victory. They formed a dynamic duo with a super impressive 17 shutouts in 23 matches. In the first half [player_tooltip player_id='206658' first='Areya-Sol' last='Garcia'] kept a clean sheet. Yet, in the second half as Surf sent wave after wave of attacks, it was [player_tooltip player_id='199882' first='Vivian' last='Baker'] who came up big to preserve the victory. Her shot stopping skills and high soccer IQ was on full display. One of the highlights was a near perfect set piece which seemed destined to go in and at the last minute, Baker made a perfectly timed tip to push the ball to the crossbar for a deflection. I've covered her during both high school and club competition and that was definitely my favorite tip save.

The best part of this match was watching the end of the game with team handshakes and hugs. It was clearly evident that both teams have mutual respect for each other, as many of them once played on the same teams. Also, both teams have qualified for the ECNL National Playoffs in San Diego. I definitely believe both teams can make a run, and possibly one of the two can bring home a championship to the Bay Area.

She made clean challenges in the box and she gave her team an offensive push and almost got the equalizer on a few shot attempts. She can make cutbacks to get past one to two defenders before charging into the attacking third to fire off shots on goal. Her calm presence and ability to read the attack allows her to make quality defensive stops.

She received a perfect slip pass while running into the box. While the goalkeeper came out for a challenge, she chipped the ball over to the far post for an incredible one touch goal. She also made clean passing combos outside of the 18 and worked one-two passes while making runs at the goal. Olivia seemed comfortable playing up as she is a 2029 player.

Scored Surf's lone goal as she was served a perfect pass in the penalty area. Byun struck it with a one-touch shot to beat the MVLA GK. I've evaluated her during the high school season as well as in club competition and she's always delivered. She can play on both ends of the field. When her team needs her on offense, she seems to find open pockets and make good quality runs at goal. She can also track back and support with clean tackles near the 18. Her strength is in making precise passes in the midfield and starting counter attacks.
