Last weekend was a busy one in the Texas High School soccer scene, with multiple tournaments taking place across the state as teams prepare for the start of district play.

Arguably the biggest of them, the I-10 Shootout was held in Katy, a Houston suburb, reuniting 72 girls' varsity teams from different parts of the state in its 20th edition, which ran from Thursday to Saturday in ten high school campuses and two Katy ISD stadiums. Prep Soccer Texas attended the tournament, covering six matches in the first two days of the event and getting to watch as many as 12 participating teams in four different brackets.

I-10 Shootout - Day 1 Photos

I-10 Shootout - Day 2 Photos

We were able to watch some impressive performances across the two days and are now taking the week to list the players who seem poised to make a big impact in their teams as the high school season enters its most important stage. These midfielders were huge in everything their teams did on the field:

Trosclair led Astascocita to winning the event's Cougar Bracket with three victories. I watched their first-round match, a 3-0 win over Friendswood, in which the senior not only controlled the midfield for them but also paved the way for their victory by scoring the team's first goal with a nice shot from outside the box. Trosclair was very active defensively, winning duels and getting to second balls, and was frequently matched up with Friendswood's talented playmaker [player_tooltip player_id='214145' first='Ashley' last='Baxter'], doing a great job of keeping her away from the penalty box. The midfielder also stood out for her distribution, connecting quick first-time passes and attempting long balls from the center of the field.

Clark was with the Lake Travis team that appeared in the event's Warrior Bracket. They had a tough first-round matchup with A&M Consolidated, which ended in a 1-1 tie and followed with a defeat in the PK shootout. The senior was her team's main playmaker, playing the No. 10 role with intelligence and creativity. Clark was very good with her movement off the ball, frequently creating space in the center of the field, and her decision-making was also consistently on point. She made some nice runs on the ball through the center of the field and played some good passes in the final third, connecting well with the forwards.

Ravanbakhsh captained the A&M Consolidated team that ended up in second place in the Warrior Bracket. The senior anchored their midfield, offering a solid defensive presence and quality on the ball in their first-round 1-1 tie with Lake Travis, which ended in a PK shootout win for the Lady Tigers. Ravanbakhsh was very active defensively, doing a great job of shielding the team's backline with her smart positioning and timely tackles. She also passed the ball well, finding teammates in good spots behind the backline, and scored the team's goal in the match by infiltrating the penalty box and getting to the end of a cross to head it into the back of the net.

Zukeran and her Tompkins teammates triumphed in the tournament's Falcon Bracket. I attended their 6-0 win over O'Connor in the first round, in which she and her older sister Makena tore their opponents apart, combining to produce five goals and three assists. The freshman accounted for a goal and three assists and was a key offensive player for her team, creating space in the center of the field with her ability to dribble in crowded areas. Zukeran was a constant threat and also showed excellent vision to connect passes in the final third, ending the match with three assists.

Lidanski's Cypress Ranch team got to compete in the event's Spartan Bracket. I was in their spirited Consolation Bracket 3-3 tie with Fort Bend Austin, which the Mustangs went on to win in the PK shootout. The junior was one of her team's most dangerous offensive players, constantly getting on the ball in the attacking half and making plays. Playing more to the right side of Cy Ranch's midfield, she was very good at creating space with her dribbling and didn't hold on to the ball for too long, quickly moving it to the attacking players with accurate passes.

Hamlin-Segura and her Fort Bend Austin team were in action in the Spartan Bracket over the weekend. One of the team's captains, she had an excellent performance in a Consolation Bracket 3-3 tie with Cypress Ranch that resulted in a defeat in PKs. Playing as a central midfielder, she was tasked with creating chances for forward [player_tooltip player_id='288542' first='Meagan' last='Schultz'], and she got the job done, assisting in her three goals. The junior was very intelligent with how she connected direct passes in transition, finding the right angles to get her teammate in good spots, and also excelled with set-piece deliveries. Hamlin-Segura was also very active defensively, playing an important role when her team didn't have the ball.

Perry captained the Lamar team that got to compete in the Warrior Bracket. One of the pillars of the team, the junior scored one of their goals in a Consolation Bracket 2-0 win over Ridge Point. Playing as a box-to-box midfielder, she provided some defensive support for the team while also appearing well in possession, moving well off the ball to offer options for her teammates and help them break the opponent's pressure. Perry made a great run into the box and showed calm and composure to score the team's first goal in the match.

Chappell's Ridge Point team played three matches in the event's Warrior Bracket. I got to watch their 2-0 Consolation Bracket loss to Lamar, in which she was one of their main playmakers, showing tremendous confidence right at the start of her high school career. A freshman, Chappell played as an attacking midfielder and stood out for her ability to beat opponents off the dribble around the penalty box. She was very aggressive in the final third, always looking to progress the ball towards the goal, and also demonstrated excellent vision to attempt passes behind the backline.

Benton and her Stratford teammates ended as the runners-up of the Spartan Bracket. A central midfielder, the senior was one of the best players on the field in the 2-1 victory over Seven Lakes that took them to the Bracket's Championship Game. Benton scored Stratford's first goal in the match in an Olimpico and was very active on the ball, demonstrating great vision and patience to move the ball around when their opponents were settled on defense and starting quick transition plays when she sensed an opportunity. The midfielder also appeared very well on the defensive side of the game, playing with good energy and making the most of her ability to read plays to anticipate passes and dispossess opponents.

Felczak played for the Seven Lakes team that hosted the Spartan Bracket. An attacking midfielder, she led their offense in a 2-1 loss to Stratford in the second round of the tournament. Despite being a freshman, Felczak plays like a veteran when it comes to her decision-making and distribution. Very good at creating space with quick moves, she stood out for how well she combined with her teammates, getting everyone around her involved and consistently offering them a passing option with her movement off the ball.
