and form arguably the best center back pairing in the country. Also capable of playing as an outside back, Mahon is extremely reliable in central defense as she seems to always know what to do to win possession, be it adjusting her positioning to intercept a pass, press an opposing attacker or cover the space behind her back. She’s also next-level in possession, showing quality and patience to circulate the ball, but also the ability to play direct and hit long and accurate diagonals.

Despite being extremely shorthanded, Mahon and Solar still had a stellar showing in Phoenix. The US Youth National Team defender was playing right center back when I saw the Solar squad on Sunday. She battled against So Cal Blues star

The center back was the anchor of Solar’s defensive system, shutting down most of Albion’s offensive attempts during the match. Mahon was very effective in dealing with Albion’s long balls, but also showed great reading and positioning to anticipate plays when they tried to create from combination plays through the middle. With Solar controlling possession, Mahon had the ball very often and she was excellent at assuring their buildup started efficiently. She circulated the ball well, hit some accurate diagonal passes and even ventured into the attacking half when she had the space to do it.

Listed as the top defender in Texas in her age group, Mahon adds a lot to her team Solar SC ECNL 08. She has been playing right back more recently, but can also contribute as a central defender, and has a tremendous skill set to play anywhere across the backline. Mahon is incredibly athletic and has outstanding defensive instincts, knowing how to put pressure on opponents and when to go for a tackle, which makes of her a lockdown defender. Her offensive game developed a lot over the last couple of years and she’s now a real asset in the attacking half as well, using her pace and ball control to get to the end line and send crosses and her vision and precision to feed teammates with through balls and help articulate plays through the middle.

Mahon was one of the best defenders at the event, and probably the best outside back. The Solar star is part of the U.S. Youth National Team. Her play at right back showed she is a two-way impactful player who stands out against even the best in this age group. Jordan Hill and Landry were also standouts for Solar.

A state champion with Prosper, Mahon is one of the best center backs in the Lone Star State and plays a major role in her Solar SC 08 team that dominated the Texas Conference with 12 wins, two losses and one tie and will be in the Champions League. Capable of playing as a right back too, she has the full package when you think of a center back as she’s physical, mobile and extremely intelligent. Mahon is strong in 1v1 duels and is very rarely caught out of position, being able to recover in no time when that happens. She’s also as solid as it gets in possession, hitting excellent passes out of the back and being capable of driving it forward and joining the team’s attacking efforts when they play ultra-defensive opponents.

One of the top players in her star-studded Solar SC G08 squad, Mahon and her teammates will be faced with Penn Fusion SA, De Anza Force and Concorde Fire Platinum at the event. One of the best center backs in Texas, she checks all the boxes of an elite defender, delivering excellent production on both sides of the ball. Mahon is extremely solid defensively, very rarely making a misstep on the backline and using her athleticism and reading of the game to shut down opposing attackers. In possession, she’s truly among the very best center backs in the country, hitting excellent passes and finding teammates in great spots to make plays. The defender can also push the ball forward and that allows her to play as a right back.

Mahon is another defender who can play multiple positions on the backline because of her excellent skill set. She’s more often used as a right-sided center back with Solar SC ECNL G08 and normally dominates opposing forwards with her strong play. Mahon is strong, intelligent with her positioning and very quick to make defensive plays, putting a lot of pressure on opponents and often pushing them away from the penalty box – she’s also relentless in winning the ball back. Another thing that sets her apart is her quality when in possession. She’s excellent at distributing the ball from the back, be it with shorter passes or long ones, and can also drive the ball forward herself, making good runs through the middle or the flanks.
