Expert Analysis

Avery held the defensive line and provided the 1v1 defense against St. Francis’s top forward. She played tough throughout the match and set the tempo for the Wildcats to not be intimidated by the Lancers’ attack. Avery’s tackles were calculative and precise. Her ability to match up against top-level competition is what separates her from the rest. The Hawaii commit will definitely add to their defensive needs. I’ve covered Avery in many other ECNL and previous high school matches, and she always delivers.

Avery played primarily in the right back position. Her quick and precise passes help to keep possession and kick-start counterattacks from the backline. I’ve previously evaluated her as a midfielder in club competition. The Hawaii commit showed her strengths on both ends of the pitch when switching off with players on the wing. Her ability to make runs in the attacking third and stop runners from slipping through the lines makes her a very versatile player. Her strengths are definitely on the defensive side, but when additional firepower is needed, don’t be surprised if she’s given the go-ahead to play in an attacking role. Avery is also an ECNL National Champion with her MVLA club team.

Edson is headed west to the University of Hawaii in 2027. She is an ECNL National Champion that comes from an extremely accomplished MVLA club. There’s no doubt that she can play at the division 1 level. I definitely have some style of play concerns as she will have to learn how to play without the ball a bit more than she’s used to with the Rainbow Warriors. But good players figure it out and I’m sure she will.

She is a standout player at Los Gatos high school as well as her National Championship MVLA gunners team. I’ve evaluated her on at least 4 occasions. She’s a consistent player who can play box-to-box and add a boost to the offense or help lock down the defense. Her ability to track back and step into attacking lanes make it difficult for opposing offenses to get clear shots on goal. She can start counter attacks from the back and literally set up her teammates or herself with high percentage attacks into the 18. She can fire off rocket shots once she gets her feet planted. I really like the pace in which she plays as it seems to put the pedal to the metal, especially at the opposite ends of the pitch. Definitely looking forward to evaluating her during the upcoming ECNL and high school season.

Edson proved to be a difference-maker along the flanks with her combination of pace and physicality that constantly disrupted Legend’s attacking rhythm. Her willingness to engage in tackles and draw fouls when necessary showcased the type of competitive edge that college coaches covet at the next level. What impressed most was her ability to win possession and immediately transition into attack mode, using her speed to create separation from forwards and buy herself the time needed to deliver productive passes into the final third. Her fitness levels appeared elite throughout the full 80 minutes, marking her as one of the most conditioned athletes on the pitch.

Primarily played on the defensive side, but moved up during the attack. She’s able to win back possession and showed some speed running the channels when chasing down wingers. Avery won most of her 50/50 challenges and showed her technical skills in distributing precise passes. Her ability to find open players was also key to transitioning play. Avery contributed in all three areas on the pitch, due to her high fitness level. She also plays on the MVLA ECNL G09 team. Can’t wait to see her in our rankings.
