Murray was with the Challenge SC team that got one win, one loss and one tie in Dallas. I got to watch their opening match, when the team got one of their two clean sheets over the weekend, tying SLSG Green 0-0. Murray played in the center of their back three and served as their last line of defense. She was typically matched up with the opponent’s most physical forward, but also did a good job when she had to move away from her position to defend in space. The center back also contributed offensively, playing a major role in the team’s buildup with her calm and efficiency on the ball and also appearing well in set pieces, sending free kicks and corner kicks into the opponent’s penalty box.

Murray had a solid performance and gave the Cougars the defensive balance they needed to push forward and play very offensively. She formed a solid center-back duo with junior Madison Landry and the two did an excellent job of keeping Magnolia West’s attackers away from the penalty box. When defending, Murray had the most freedom while Landry stayed back to cover and the sophomore was excellent at winning duels, using her physicality to dominate opponents. She also was very active in possession, looking for the ball and connecting good low, direct passes through the middle and sending long diagonals too.

Murray is a center back for Challenge SC 09 team in the ECNL league. She typically plays on the right side of their back three and poses a real challenge to opposing attackers. Murray is very physical and doesn’t shy away from duels, using her body to put pressure on opponents and cutting passing lanes with great intelligence. She does a very good job when he has to defend attackers who like to operate with their backs to the goal and also has quality on the ball.
