The main developments of the match all took place early in the second half. In the 47th minute, Dynamo defender [player_tooltip player_id='211229' first='Dami' last='Samuel'] lost the ball to [program_tooltip program_id='283612' first='Austin' last='FC'] forward [player_tooltip player_id='350769' first='Kevin' last='Houar'] near the midfield line and took him down as he sprinted into an open field, receiving a straight red. The visitors got their goal just two minutes later, when forward [player_tooltip player_id='210663' first='Maddox' last='Choate'] won a duel for a long ball on the left, brought it inside and fired a low-driven shot into the corner.

The Dynamo had a good chance to score another one in the 51st minute, when Choate got a lofted pass from forward [player_tooltip player_id='148174' first='Tristan' last='Cottle'] and was taken down in the box. Midfielder [player_tooltip player_id='332674' first='Matthew' last='Shannon'] went for the ball, but [program_tooltip program_id='283612' first='Austin' last='FC'] goalkeeper [player_tooltip player_id='349230' first='Bennett' last='Richardson'] dove to his right and stopped his shot.

Choate scored the Dynamo's game-winning goal and was involved in almost every attacking play set up by the team. He didn't get many opportunities to make an impact in the first half, but stepped up after his team lost a player and made things happen up top despite being significantly outnumbered. With the Dynamo playing long, Choatte often had to battle multiple defenders, and he didn't shy away from it, as both the goal he scored and the penalty kick he drew happened after he won duels in the final third. His shot to score the only goal of the match was very accurate and didn't give Richardson any chance to stop it.

Barrett was absolutely dominant in a rare MLS Next appearance and was pivotal in his team's clean sheet. The defender started the match on the right side of the Dynamo's back three and seamlessly adjusted when they moved into a back four after Samuel's red card. Barrett physically dominated opponents in 1v1 duels, was very successful when he stepped up to press high and when he defended wide. He also did well in the air when Austin attempted several crosses near the end of the match and showed quality on the ball to support the offense with passes and runs on the ball.

Originally used as a right wingback, Gardner was one of the Dynamo's main offensive weapons in the first half. He consistently pushed forward and made good plays out wide, either taking the ball to the end line and crossing it into the box or bringing it inside to combine with his teammates. In the second half, with the Dynamo's formation change, Gardner dropped to right back and continued to be important, now with a strong and consistent game. He was also one of the team's leaders, communicating well and pushing his teammates in difficult moments.

Gonzalez was the Dynamo's most offensive-minded midfielder in the first half and did a good job of getting involved in most of the team's attacking plays. He was very quick and intelligent on the ball, and helped his team operate in the attacking half with quality. In the second half, Gonzalez became a wide midfielder (first on the right, and then on the left) and brought the energy to continue making plays in the attack while also dropping back and helping his team work off the ball. The midfielder almost scored a beautiful goal in the second half after Choate redirected a long pass with his chest, and he connected a nice first-time shot that went just a little wide.

Seiterle played as a right-sided center back for Austin and had a solid defensive performance for them. The team captain did well in physical duels and was constantly asked to put out fires across the backline, stepping up to get the job done. Seiterle did a good job of communicating with his teammates and keeping the backline organized during most of the match. The center back did well on the ball, too, and launched some nice crosses into the box in the final minutes when Austin pushed forward for an equalizer.

Despite the home loss, Richardson had a solid shift in goal for [program_tooltip program_id='283612' first='Austin' last='FC']. The goalkeeper wasn't under constant pressure, but did well when he was called to action. Richardson couldn't have reached Choate's goal in the Dynamo goal and, besides stopping Shannon's penalty-kick shot, also made another great save on a [player_tooltip player_id='211224' first='Keegan' last='Ahrens'] finish in the last few minutes. He wasn't always the cleanest on the ball, but kept things simple in possession and didn't get in trouble.

Houar was Austin's center forward for most of the match, and he struggled a little bit with the lack of service in the final third. The forward, however, never stopped moving and being an option for his teammates. Houar consistently drifted wide to get on the ball away from the busy center of the field and attempted some good runs behind the backline too. He was very smart in the play that led to Samuel's red card, fighting for a ball that seemed more to Dynamo's defender's way, dispossessing him in a key area of the field and forcing him to stop the play.
