Guilherme Torres | Prep Soccer Scout
Cottle was probably the Dynamo’s most dangerous attacking player and frequently succeeded in creating chances for the team. He spent time on both wings and also played in the center, always using his quickness and dribbling ability to create space. Cottle made the right choice in giving Walsh the ball in the play of the Dynamo’s goal, and released it at the right time. He kept trying until the final whistle and had a good chance near the end, beating a defender on the left and firing a shot that was saved by Orlando’s goalkeeper.

Cottle started the match on the left side of the Dynamo’s attack and was very involved in the first half, even if he didn’t have a great chance to score. His movement was interesting, as he attempted to come from the left to the center when engaging in combination plays, mostly with Nzita. Cottle showed good presence inside the box, scoring the team’s first goal in an important moment during the second half, and had a couple of other good chances – in one, his shot went slightly wide, and in the other, an AC River cleared the ball when it was about to go in. He moved to midfield during the second half and did well with his distribution, helping the Dynamo explore the space available in the final third.

A member of the Dynamo’s U16 team, Cottle played in the U19 age group for the first time and had a very good performance. He featured as a left midfielder for them and was heavily involved in the team’s offense with good solo runs and combination plays. Cottle appeared very well inside the penalty box to finish Fadel Kone’s cross with power and precision despite using his weak foot and was always dangerous when he brought the ball inside from the left, combining with the other attacking players or feeding overlapping outside back Zach White with great passes. He also displayed good energy and determination to help on defense and press opponents and in one of those plays, he won the ball in the attacking half and generated a good chance, but sent his shot wide.

Playing his first match for the Dynamo after recently moving from GFI, Cottle decided the match with a perfect finish in a quick play and showed how impactful he can be on the team. He wasn’t at his best at the start of the match, as he seemed to be looking for the best spot on the field, but once he got settled, he started appearing well – he made a beautiful play in the first half, but his teammates couldn’t finish it. Cottle played on both sides of the Dynamo’s attack and also spent some time centrally, connecting well with the players around him and moving very well off the ball to give them passing options. After his goal, with the Rangers pushing forward, he had more space to go at opponents in 1v1 duels and he was successful in most of them, creating other chances. Cottle also helped the team on defense until the end, despite clearly being tired.

Cottle was GFI’s most creative player in midfield and was perhaps their only player to maintain a strong offensive rhythm during the entire match. He played more to the left in the team’s midfield and connected well with winger Santiago Merlet and outside back Pol Verges, creating space for offensive plays. Cottle displayed a complete offensive game, driving the ball very well and, at times, dribbling multiple Dynamo defenders, and also connecting great through passes. He looked for the ball a lot and also sent good crosses into the penalty box near the end of the match.

Cottle is an attacking midfielder/winger with the Total Football Club in MLS Next. He has been called into the US Soccer U14 Talent ID Center in the past. He is a fun player to scout. He’s electric on the ball. He’s constantly scanning and diagnosis weaknesses in the opposition’s defense. Cottle was very successful in MLS Next last season. He had games against MLS opponents when he scored multiple goals. Cottle has proven to be a difficult player to mark for the competition at his age level. It seems like a matter of time before he is getting opportunities against older competition.
