Rankings Preview: Top talent from the Texas 2028 Rankings

In this article:
The Prep Soccer state rankings for Texas’ 2028 class will be released next week. Prior to the release of the full list, we take a look at the top players from the group. Below is a scouting report on the six best players from the 2028 class in Texas.
Midfielder. Reyes already earned a promotion to the U15 team last season. There’s every reason to believe he will continue to play up an age group based on those performances. He’s a No. 6 or a No. 8. He loves to have the ball at his feet. Really advanced in his tactical approach as he adjusts his body positioning before receiving the ball and constantly checks his shoulders. He never loses possession of the ball. Great first touch, tremendous understanding of how to get away from pressure. Could improve on his defense. He’s not a physical tackler, but he’s good at closing off options with his long strides. Reyes is exceptionally talented and smart. He’s got all the characteristics of a future star and the mentality to back it up. Dynamo continue to produce high-level prospects from the youngest age groups thanks to the groundwork the academy did many years ago.
Highlights
Left back. Part of the US Youth National Team. Small. Tough kid. Hops up quickly from fouls. High engine. Lightning quick feet. Probably the most skillful outside back in the country in this class. Offers massive upside for his position as he impacts the game on both sides of the ball. Coaches love him, very coachable. Wears the captain’s armband at the club level. Smart on the ball, sharp passer. There’s a lot of positive of Jones’ game and it’s easy to see how it will translate moving forward. The question will be about size. He’s already dealing with players taking a more physical approach against him. As long as he continues to solve those challenges with his intelligence, there’s every reason to believe he will be a long time standout for FC Dallas.

Forward/Midfielder. Member of the Mexico U15 Youth National Team. Also played for the US at the U14 Youth National Team level. He is very good. Immediately jumps off the screen from game film as a player with next level qualities. Plays with his head up, always in the control. Game looked too easy for him at the 2010 age group last season, should be playing against older competition. Right footed, but good finisher with either foot. Absolutely dominant against his own age group last season especially against non-MLS teams. Listed as a forward on the youth national team roster – and played center forward for FC Dallas. Should be a high priority target for scouts.

Midfielder. Arana is a member of the US Youth National Team. He’s a box-to-box midfielder. He’s got clean footwork, There are plenty of highlights from the past season of Arana breaking the ankles of defenders. He’s got rare elusive moves and body feints. He provides a high number of key passes per game to set up chances for his side. His vision and passing ability make him a top midfielder. He could improve on his work off the ball. He waited too long to move to get open for teammates at times last season. The more touches he can get on the ball during the game, the better Dynamo will be this season.

Defender. Center back. Originally from Iowa, joined Austin FC full time in January of 2024. Quickly earned opportunities with the U15 team (playing up an age group) in training and at events. Playing with his own age group, he wore the captain’s armband. Right footed. Poised defender. Never seemed to be nervous. Excellent passer. Squeezed some passes into tight windows. Needs to improve in aerial duels. He got beat on a couple of drop kicks when he tracked the runner and didn’t win the header and left the center of the field vulnerable. Glynn was one of two players from Austin FC to get an invite to the US Soccer U14 Boys National Team. I rate him as the best prospect for that club in the 2010 age group. He has the physical tools to be a center back at the professional level. There are areas for improvement, but he is the best passer among center backs in this class by a considerable margin. He is a leader on the field and will be a building block for Austin FC’s academy.
Highlights
Winger/Midfielder. Clean touch. Smooth player. Athletic profile, can do a bit of everything. More attack minded. Thought he struggled a bit when I saw him play as an attacking midfielder. He didn’t get on the ball as much as one would like from a top prospect. When he was playing on the wing, he was dynamic with good runs off the ball to create space. He’s capable of electric plays in the final third and a good finisher. Hallie’s shown the potential to be a top player in his age group at the national level.
