Many parents agreed that the timing for this tournament was spot-on, and hopefully future ECNL events will be as great as this one. As for me, this was my first time at the Nationals, and I was super impressed by the professionalism from an organizational standpoint. Everything was top-notch, and the views were also spectacular.

In this article, I will be featuring two Bay Area teams from the G10 division who made it to the round of 16. I've covered both teams many times throughout the season and many of the players during their high school season. Yet these top-performing players always seem to deliver at the most crucial points of the match, or they've been consistently solid players.

[program_tooltip program_id='283257' first='Bay' last='Area Surf'] has a a current record of (20-4-3). They went (3-0) during the tournament, results and scores of G#1 (5-1), G#2 (1-0), and G#3 (2-1). There next Opponent - SLSG Navy ECNL has a record of (15-3-5). They meet up on Wednesday (7/2/25) in the Round of 16.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1939910690384339101

Standouts for Surf are [player_tooltip player_id='202683' first='Jayla' last='Swindle'], [player_tooltip player_id='262616' first='Aris' last='Yu'], [player_tooltip player_id='111108' first='Allie' last='Huff'], and [player_tooltip player_id='206664' first='Lynn' last='Byun'].

She is a solid mid who can play the 8, 10, and 7. As can make quick and precise passes to runners in stride. Her quick cut backs and change of direction gets players into scoring range. When needed, she can push up top and become a scoring threat in the box. Her ability to find open pockets helps to her advantage as she gives players opportunities to make overlapping and diagonal runs at goal.

She is a scoring threat and is the catalyst of the MVLA attack. She has a motor and can turn it up in the attacking third. She seems to gravitate towards the ball and she makes quality finishes in the box. One their first match of the tournament, Huff scored 3 goals. She played consistent throughout the rest of the matches to help her team to a 3-0 record.

[player_tooltip player_id='262616' first='Aris' last='Yu'] and [player_tooltip player_id='206664' first='Lynn' last='Byun'] played locked down defense. They and the goalkeeping corps held their opponents to 2 goals against for 8 goals for Surf. Yu is solid as a 3, but sometimes pushes up as a 7. Her ability to play box-to-box helps provide a push on offense when needed. I've seen her score multiple goals in a match before. Her stellar play on defense was what her team need up to this point. Don't be surprised if she gets a goal or two in the knock out rounds.

Byun is also a player who can play multiple positions. I've covered her high school team (Saint Francis), who won both the CCS and NorCal Division 1 championships. She's always delivered on big games. She scored a goal in the opening match and played consistently in the next two. Surf will need her to continue to play solid on defense and make some quality runs to the 18 as she seems to be a natural finisher in big matches.

I've covered her high school team (Saint Francis), who won both the CCS and NorCal Division 1 championships. This ability catches most defenses off guard while her teammates find open lanes. Her quick and precise passes are a sight to see. Having over 12 shutouts during the season and only allowing 2 goals in the three matches is simply amazing.

She is not afraid to make 1v1 challenges when the opposition is making hard runs in the box. She reads the game well and uses her athleticism towards her advantage.

She's one of the best goalkeeper's in the 2028 class. I've covered her high school matches and a few ECNL matches this season and possibly only saw one goal get by her. Her ability to see the the attacking buildup gets her to quickly position herself to make the best stops against runners trying to find an angle in the 18. Time after time, I've seen her make diving stops as well as go up high to eliminate threats in the air.

Lastly, [player_tooltip player_id='268395' first='Paloma' last='John-Baptiste'] is a key player on offense. She scored 3 goals in group play. Here ability to finish in or around the 18 is worthy of a top-notch player on offense. She finds open pockets and slips between two to three defenders with ease and can make quality rocket shots from her left foot. She will also need to get a few more goals for her team to keep advancing and making their run. This is definitely one of the team I predicted to win a NATTY!

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1939928777074618812
