The high school winter soccer season is right around the corner, and I will be featuring a series of upcoming and current high school impact players. In this edition, elite NorCal and SoCal high school players are the focus. All of these players have actively participated in year-round soccer, with a few of them playing multiple sports as well. The class of 2027 players have made their commitments to colleges, and the 2028 players will be some of the most sought-after players come June 15th.

With the amount of talent from this group, it is possible to get a state Gatorade Player of the Year from this series in a year or two. Since this is a heavy recruitment year for 2028 players, college scouts will be going to their matches in hopes of locking these top-level players. High school coaches are definitely excited to have them on their teams, as they could be the difference in a successful season or be the missing piece to a title.

Aside from their individual accomplishments, these players have contributed to the success of their high school teams at league championships, section titles, and NorCal and SoCal (state) titles. The featured players are:

[player_tooltip player_id='199883' first='Mercy' last='Karson'] - Carondelet - D - 2028 - (#9 in the Nation, #10 in CA, and #5 in Position) - She was a starter as a Freshman and contributed to the Cougars success as they made a run to the Division 1 North Coast Section Quarterfinals. Carondelet went 18-4 overall and was 1st in League at 9-0. They were also ranked #23 in CA and #98 in the Nation. Mercy is one of the best players in the nation and her opportunities are endless. She is a regular USYNT callup and has had pro trials with multiple teams. It's just a matter of time before she gets a call and makes that jump. I've evaluated her on multiple occasions and at every match she was stellar.

During the 2024-25 season, her team had an overall record of 12-3-6 and came in 1st place in league play. The Wildcats were ranked #70 in CA and #220 in the nation. Abby can play as a striker or DB, but if you ask me, she is one of the best finishers I've seen at the high school and ECNL level. It will be great to see the Cal commit lead her team to another run at the league title and possibly a section title.

Kiyomi made some contributions to the Saint Francis Treble. The Lancers won the league Championship, the Division I Central Coast Section Title, and the NorCal Division I title as well. She is a USYNT callup and she has the ability to compete with the best players in the nation and it is just a matter of time before she makes her mark on a stacked Saint Francis team. I've covered her in both high school and ECNL matches and she's one of the most consistent players I've seen at the ECNL level. It's gonna be awesome to see how she can support the Lancers in making another historical run.

She helped her team to a 18-2-2 Overall record and a 1st place 11-0 league championship. The Sun Devils were ranked #11 in CA and #330 in the nation. She is rated by our lead scout (Nikolai Littleton) as an A+ recruit. The Alabama commit is making a name for herself at the national level and maybe she'll catch the eye of scouts as a possible Gatorade state player of the year contender.

[player_tooltip player_id='147280' first='A'Rianna' last='Ellis'] - Olympian - F - 2028 - (#52 in the Nation, #8 in CA, and #3 in Position). Although her team did not have a successful year as far as wins and losses are concerned, she is looking for a breakout year in the upcoming season. As a Freshman, A'Rianna scored 8 goals and provided an assist. She has the speed to get past defenders and has a strong right footed shot with the ability to score from distance. Her height allows her to have an advantage in the air, but her strength is her power shots on goal. Looking forward to seeing her make a push as a team leading scorer and getting her team to one of the top 3 finishes in league play.

Although they lost in the 1st round of the CIF SoCal Division III opening round, they had a successful year as they also came in 2nd in league play. The Mavericks overall record of 12-7-3 and league record of 4-3-1 is testament that records don't always reflect on the potential of a team's overall success. Looking forward to seeing the Colorado commit and her La Costa Canyon team make another run at a section title and possibly a longer run in the SoCal tournament. Also, hoping to see her her ECNL team get another National Championship (2024) and have her get another USYNT call-up.

[player_tooltip player_id='213588' first='Jordan' last='Foxhoven'] - Viewpoint - F - 2028 - (#42 in CA and #7 in Position). She was part of a team which overcame the Palisades Fire, which cut their season in half. As resilient as the community, the Patriots, despite having a league record of 1-4-1 won the Division 5 section title and almost got a win in the opening round of the 2025 CIF SoCal tournament. Looking forward to seeing Jordan have a breakout season and contribute to another Viewpoint run at possibly the league and section titles. I wouldn't count them out in also going further in the SoCal tournament.

She was part of a stacked team which went 19-2-2 overall and 1st place in league play. The Dragons were ranked #42 in CA and #143 in the nation. As a freshman starter, Ana played a pivotal role in the defensive backline. They had a good run at a section title, but weren't able to get it done and lost the match by the slimmest of margins. They also got past the first round of the NorCal tournament, but lost in a PK shootout to Archbishop Mitty who made it to the final. I've evaluated her at the ECNL level and she has the ability to play at a top Division I program. Her high soccer IQ and ability to read the attack are her strengths on the defensive side. I'm sure that Ana and her team is looking forward to getting the title which slipped away and making a longer run in the NorCal tournament.
