Guilherme Torres | Prep Soccer Scout
A towering center forward, Wegman is the focal point of FC Dallas ‘ offense. He’s absolutely dominant in the air and scores goals in bunches with his head, but, more than his height, it’s his intelligent positioning inside the box that allows him to consistently get on the end of crosses and finish chances. An excellent finisher, he scores in first-time shots very often and what stands out the most about his game is how efficient he is, consistently being impactful and deciding matches for his team. Wegman also contributes to the team’s playmaking, occupying multiple defenders and working very well with his back to the goal as he connects with his teammates in the final third.

Wegman was very close to deciding the match in just seven minutes, thanks to his excellent presence inside the box and superior finishing skills. The forward spent most of the first half fighting for space with GFI defenders and did a good job of getting on the end of long passes and holding the ball up, but didn’t get much service inside the box, getting just one finish after a free kick cross. In the second half, his teammates were able to find Wegman more often close to the goal and he responded with three goals. The forward also did some good work with his back to the goal, facilitating combination plays and turning on the defenders to finish. He had to play the final 20 minutes with an injury and without his ability to hold the ball up top, Dallas started giving it away to GFI, who pushed to get the tie.

Wegman will be one of the offensive weapons of FC Dallas U16 in their matches against Philadelphia Union, CF Montreal and Orlando City. Standing at 6’6″, he’s a handful inside the penalty box, occupying multiple defenders, and many teams just can’t handle his physicality and strong presence, especially in the air. Wegman has the ability to change games with his presence on the field, giving a big target for his teammates. His game goes well beyond his size, though, as Wegman also works well with his back to the goal and is a lethal finisher, who doesn’t need more than one touch to send the ball into the back of the net.

Wegman changed the game coming off the bench and scored the two goals that completed FC Dallas’ impressive comeback. He brought the presence inside the penalty box his team needed and was the perfect target for their crosses, beating the Dynamo defenders in the air to head two balls into the back of the net – the first one was a particularly difficult header. Wegman also displayed good quality with his feet and did a great job getting on the end of long balls, including the one that resulted in the game-winning goal. The forward also helped the team defend after the got the lead, playing defense with good energy.
