Guilherme Torres | Prep Soccer Scout
Back with Rangers after trialing with the Colorado Rapids, Diaz was their most active and dangerous attacking player in the match. He began as a striker and, after not getting much service inside the box, dropped deeper to get on the ball and make plays. Diaz moved to midfield at the start of the second half and helped create chances with good runs and combination plays through the middle, also drawing fouls just outside the box. In both roles, he showed great defensive commitment, dropping to support his teammates and fighting hard for the ball.

A new addition to the team this season, the freshman boosted Episcopal’s offense with his well-rounded and technical game. A winger, Diaz is very skilled on the ball, beating opponents off the dribble out wide and making plays at a consistent rate. He’s also a goalscoring threat, being capable of firing accurate shots from outside the box with either foot and having a good presence inside of it. Diaz is also very disciplined and committed to his defensive duties, always tracking back to help on defense.

After playing for the Houston Dynamo U15 team last season, Diaz returned to the Houston Rangers , where he’s expected to appear in both their U16 and U17 squads. A wide player with a strong all-around game, he has the ability to impact the game on both sides of the ball and will be a nice addition to the Rangers, being capable of having an important role in both age groups. Diaz is very skilled offensively and can create chances both on individual plays and by connecting with his teammates, but also offers important defensive contributions, pressing opposing defenders high and also dropping back to occupy the space out wide. He also does a great job of getting into the penalty box to finish chances and becoming a scoring threat from the wing.

Diaz played in the second and third periods of the match and was extremely impactful in the Dynamo’s offense. His ability to press high was of great value for his team as two of their four goals, including the one he scored, started with the forward winning possession in the attacking half. Diaz also contributed to the team’s playmaking efforts, coming inside from the right and facilitating plays with smart first-time passes. The forward also fulfilled his defensive commitments, dropping back to challenge the Rangers’ left back, and managed to block many of his runs, playing with great energy.

Diaz was very important with his solid all-around game and his ability to play different roles for the Dynamo. He started the match at left winger and was having a good performance there, taking defenders on the dribble and coming into the penalty box to finish chances. When right back Brogan Fitzsimmons got injured in the first half, Diaz moved to his spot and performed arguably even better, appearing well on both sides of the ball. He was very solid defensively, not allowing anything to happen in his zone, and making good runs on the ball and combination plays into the attacking half.
