The ECNL Champions League playoffs for the group stage and Round of 16 games were completed last week at the 60 Acre complex in Washington. Prep Soccer was on hand for the action. Check out the exclusive content from the event here.
Below is the Prep Soccer Best XI from the 2009 age group at the event.
FC Dallas went throught the event undefeated and only conceded one goal. I thought Ta’s play against Match Fit Academy in group play was some of the best goalkeeping I saw in any age group. The young netminder for FC Dallas is one to keep an eye on. She has already been part of US Soccer Talent ID events in the past, and showed in Washington that she should continue to get looks as one of the best in her position. Trinity Morrow Trinity Morrow D Prosper | 2027 State #137 Nation TX , Gray Rideaux Gray Rideaux D TX , Grace Wetzel Grace Wetzel M TX , and Layla Igelsias were also standouts for FC Dallas.
Highlights
The Eclipse squad battled back from a set back in the second game in Washington and won the group with an impressive result. They finished the showing with an excellence performance against FC Dallas. The resolve of the Eclipse team was tested, which should prepare them well for the upcoming quarterfinals. Williams impressed me against FC Dallas and Seattle United. She can do everything. She showed that she can be one of the best No. 8s in the ECNL in this age group. Gabrielle Coyne, Yuridia Hernandez, and Addy Randall were also standouts for Eclipse.
Highlights
The Real Colorado right center back had a stellar showing at the event. She was exceptional in the win over Internationals. Always in the right spot and making the right play, Sarnow showed she has big time potential. Center back partner Laila Raines was also one of the best at the event. Tuula Tarkka, Kyara O’Connor, and Mary Lowery were also standouts for Real Colorado at the event.
Brewer and the KC Athletics 09 squad put together a stunning display at the event and advanced to the quarterfinals. I’ve previously seen Brewer play up an age group in the past so seeing her at center back against her peers was a reminder of how dominant she is against the best talent in the 09 age group. Chloe Guenther, Jacy Hackler, and Evie Kincaid were also standouts for KC Athletics 09.
The Solar center back made a couple of key tackles early in the win over SLSG Navy. It was a good representation of her week. She made the key play when her team needed it. The center back tandem of Davis and Chloe Griswell Chloe Griswell M State TX were exceptional. Giselle Aguilar Giselle Aguilar F State #19 Nation TX was one of the best players at the event as well.

One of the captain’s of the SUSA group, Nullet impressed in the win over NC Courage. The outside back shutdown the competition with terrific, tenacious individual defending. She was also great in recovery and provided the last line of defense on a couple of occasions. Olivia Shaw was also a standout for SUSA.
Pohl was one of the top players from the event and helped her side advance to the Round of 16. They came up short against a talented Solar group, but Pohl left an impression. The part of her game that impressed me was her forward thinking. She was quick with making the next read and did well getting the ball off her feet quickly. When she saw a chance on going forward, she took it. When she knew it was right to slow down play, she found the right outlet to recirculate possession. The defensive midfielder had a superb showing. Georgia Restovich was also outstanding in the midfield for SLSG Navy.
Highlights
PDA is the defending national champions in this age group and entered the postseason with a big target on their backs. They handled the pressure of that with four outstanding performances. I thought Rubin was the most valuable piece of the puzzle for the defending champs. She controlled the center of the field with her tactical acumen and set up chances with her accurate passing. Rubin is a quinestenial do-it-all midfielder who is dynamic and versatile. Deus Stanislaus, Sandra O’Neill, and Amari Manning were also standouts for PDA.
Highlights
Eliana’s performance against Beach FC was something special. A goal and an assist in the opening 10 minutes set the tone for the game. Looking back at previous notes, I’d seen Powenski play in a defensive midfield role. She was utilized in a wide midfield role in Washington as well, which showcased her elite attacking talents. Powenski is a versatile player who is a top talent in this group. Kylie Berk, Julia Rick, and Brianna Young were also standouts for Penn Fusion.
Highlights
Nguyen proved her quality as one of the best players in the country during this event. The Surf forward can score in a variety of ways – and showed that for her side in Washington. Nguyen’s goal scoring was the focal point of her success, but the speed and burst she showed on the ball revealed why this is a player with professional game potential.

Cook was unstoppable at points during the week in Washington. The Slammers FC HB Koge star showed the strength, speed, and skill to be considered one of the best center forwards in the country in this age group. She held off defenders, she created chances for her teammates, and she finished when the chance was there for her. Cook has unlimited potential and is one of the best athletes in this group. Kaitlyn Cook,

Morrell’s arrival to the ECNL playoffs lived up to the hype. The former TSJ FC Virginia star was electric for VDA. She scored, assisted, and impacted the game all over the pitch. Morrell and VDA came up just short of advancing to the quarterfinals, but they are clearly a group that will be one to watch next season. Leah Fernald and Kyah Smith were also standouts for VDA.
Highlights
Bechtel solidified her spot on this team after her performance against World Class FC in the Round of 16 game. She was equally as impressive in the advancement game against CESA Liberty in the final game from group play. The attacking talent can finish and create with the best of them. She plays at a pace that not many other teams can match.
