The list of candidates to appear at the Texas High School Soccer State Tournament continues to shrink by the day around the Lone Star State and on Friday, by the end of the Regional Semifinals, only eight teams in each division keep their hopes alive.

Prep Soccer Texas continues to follow the playoffs as they unfold in the Houston area and on Friday, March 28, we were at Tully Stadium, for an exciting matchup between the Ridge Point Panthers and the Seven Lakes Spartans, who came back twice to secure a 3-2 victory with the game-winning goal scored within the last two minutes of the match.

Photos: Ridge Point vs. Seven Lakes

The first half was very even, with the two teams taking turns in dominating possession. The Panthers, who had managed to create the most dangerous chances up to that point, scored the first goal when Camryn Letellier assisted fellow senior Emma Lovell, who hit a powerful shot into the upper corner. Ridge Point were just a few seconds from going into the halftime break with the lead, but with less than 20 seconds to go, junior Anuhea Aalona took a free kick into the Panthers' penalty box and senior Olivia Orellana got on the end of it to level the score for Seven Lakes.

Ridge Point jumped ahead again in the second half after Lovell took a corner kick and senior Allison Wilson headed the ball into the back of the net. Needing to score, the Spartans sent their defenders forward and they decided the match. With less than ten minutes on the clock, Orellana controlled a cross and sent the ball into the net with a well-placed, left-footed shot. When overtime seemed inevitable, senior [player_tooltip player_id='54871' first='Kennedy' last='Reed'] took a free kick from over 35 yards out directly to the goal and sent the ball in, taking her team to the Regional Finals.

A goal within the last two minutes gives @SLGirlsSoccer7 a hard-fought 3-2 win over @RPHSGirlsSoccer in the Regional Semifinals. Playing on the left side of Seven Lakes' backline, Orellana did some great defensive work, defending the penalty box with great efficiency and keeping Ridge Point's most dangerous forwards away - the Panthers scored their goals with a shot from distance and a corner kick. She showed great presence on the attacking penalty box, scoring twice and having another great chance denied by Ridge Point's goalkeeper - she did a great job controlling a difficult cross before finishing to score the team's second goal. Orellana also created good chances with her ability to take long free kicks and was very reliable with her passing out of the back.

Goal @SLGirlsSoccer7 ! @anuhea46 takes a free kick on the side of the box and the ball goes straight in! 1-1 pic.twitter.com/p2uE4ur8M9
— Guilherme Torres (@grtorres) March 29, 2025

The senior right back thrived defensively and offensively and was another key figure in her team's dramatic victory. Reed was extremely solid defensively and didn't allow much to happen in her zone - she also did a great job of coming inside to defend the far post when plays developed on the opposite side and got to make a couple of important clearances. With the Spartans trailing, she pushed forward and offered a lot offensively, with good crosses down the right. Reed was also decisive in set pieces as, besides deciding the match with an incredible shot from 35 yards out, she also created other good chances with great deliveries. The defender was a vocal leader for her team and pushed them up in the most difficult moments of the match.

Goal @SLGirlsSoccer7 ! @kennedylreed shots a long free kick into the back of the net. Lumpkin was tasked with defending Ridge Point's creative playmaker [player_tooltip player_id='26338' first='Laurel' last='Kelley'] 1v1 and was very successful in her mission. The defensive midfielder didn't allow her opponent much space on the ball and forced her to play back or sideways on most occasions, besides also getting some nice interceptions. Lumpkin dropped back to the backline when Orellana and Reed moved up to support Seven Lakes' offense when the team was behind and provided some nice defensive coverage for them.

The junior midfielder was Seven Lakes' main playmaker in the match and had a very consistent performance, consistently appearing on the ball in the attacking half. Aalona popped up in good spots to offer a passing option to her teammates and make plays and had some dangerous runs through the middle. She also distributed the game very well and found left winger [player_tooltip player_id='214146' first='Bridget' last='Asekomhe'] with well-weighted through balls on a few occasions. She was also a target for long balls, displaying great energy and determination to chase passes and fight defenders to get on the end of them. When [player_tooltip player_id='148467' first='Olivia' last='Reddick'] got injured, she was moved back to right back and was more focused on her defensive duties, engaging in a nice battle with Asekomhe.
