Prep Soccer Texas continues to follow closely everything that's going on in the Houston area and on Monday, March 17, we were present in one of the last matches of District 19, which saw the Tompkins Lady Falcons beat the Taylor Lady Mustangs 4-1 in Katy.

Tompkins took the lead in the very first minutes of the match, after junior [player_tooltip player_id='55783' first='Rhegan' last='Coombs'] drove the ball through the left and fired a low shot. Taylor's goalkeeper spilled it and senior Paula Fuentes followed it up to score with an easy tap-in. Now much later, Fuentes got her second one in the match, firing a shot that went in in the lower corner. Before the halftime break, the Lady Falcons scored again after a low corner kick went across the penalty box and the ball ended at the back of the net after a Taylor defended attempted to clear it.

Early in the second half, Tompkins saw their lead increase to 4-0 when sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='269325' first='Naomi' last='Medeiros'] scored from outside the penalty box. Taylor scored near the end, but it was arguably the most beautiful goal in the match, as sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='157156' first='Camila' last='Miranda Riebeling'] sent a rocket from distance into the upper corner.

The senior scored two goals early on and paved the way for the team's comfortable way - she did a great job of following up on Coombs' shot in the first one and had a nice finish of her own to get the second. Fuentes used to play as a defensive midfielder in the previous seasons and the Lady Falcons did a great job of weaponizing her skills in the final third. She's a handful for opposing defenders with her work rate and is excellent with her movement off the ball, always offering a passing option to her teammates, and also engages in combination plays with great efficiency. Fuentes was also very active at pressing Taylor's defenders and managed to win the ball in dangerous spots on a couple of occasions.

The junior midfielder was the brains of Tompkins' offense, getting involved in basically everything the team did in the final third. Zukeran moved around a lot and popped up in different spots to get on the ball and create chances. She was excellent at using quick turns to beat defenders off the dribble to create space and also thrived with her distribution, knowing when to work with quick combination plays or to make accurate switches. Zukeran also had a couple of dangerous shots and was a little bit unlucky for not scoring one.

Playing in the center of Tompkins' backline, the junior center back had a flawless match and gave the team the defensive support it needed to play on the front foot the entire time. Johnson's positioning was always on point and she was very solid when making clearances inside the penalty box and also when she had to move out wide, getting to the ball first than Taylor's attackers. She was tasked with defending Camila Miranda for most of the match and did an excellent job of keeping her away from the penalty box while dealing with her pace. Johnson was very good in possession too, connecting great passes out of the back, be it short ones to initiate the buildup or long ones that found teammates in the attacking half.

The freshman midfielder impressed with her ability to perform different roles and had a very strong performance for the home team. Rodriguez split her time playing in the center of the field or wider positions and delivered exactly what each position required. She was very efficient in the attacking half, displaying solid dribbling skills to beat opposing defenders and distributing the ball with great intelligence. Rodriguez also worked hard on defense, helping close the space in the center of the field or defend wide, depending on where she was playing at the moment.

The sophomore forward scored Taylor's lone goal in the match and that was probably a reward for her work rate and determination during the 80 minutes of play. Miranda never stopped trying to make things happen offensively and moved everywhere as she looked for the ball. She had some success in runs out wide, managing to get the ball closer to the penalty box, but didn't get a good look to finish from close range as Tompkins were very well prepared to stop her. Miranda had some great plays near the end of the match, scoring a beautiful goal from distance and feeding [player_tooltip player_id='210626' first='Caroline' last='Barrow'] with a perfectly-timed pass in a transition play that got her in a great spot to finish, but her shot went wide.

The senior started the match in central midfield and was very active on both sides of the ball for the Lady Mustangs. Hemperley was reading the game very well and was the first to get to second balls on many occasions, helping her team keep possession. She also had a big role in the team's distribution, connecting good passes, and provided great service off of long free kicks, sending dangerous crosses into the penalty box. Hemperley moved to the right side of the team's attack in the second half and, although she had more of an impact on the team's chance-creation because she was closer to the opposing penalty box, she wasn't as active as in the first half.
