About Iris

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Last year, my high school teammates nicknamed me "Sneak Attack" due to my ability to intercept the ball swiftly and discreetly. As a fullback, I possess strong footwork and speed, enabling me to make overlapping runs that effectively support the offense. My technical skills allow me to navigate tight spaces with ease, while my speed ensures I can quickly recover to defend when necessary.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am currently involved in Associasian club, and Hosa. I am in the National Honor Society and Principal's list. I was award 1st Team All-District and made it to round three of the playoff in Texas. Also a on ODP North Texas.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have been honored to volunteer for several organizations over the years. Most recently I volunteered with the Miracle League coaching special needs children play soccer.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

One struggle was being raised as a military child. Constantly relocating disrupted school, my sense of stability, and long lasting relationships. Adapting to different educational systems was also difficult. It was also heartbreaking to only seeing my father for two weeks out of the year. Despite the struggles being a military dependent gave me resilience, strong coping skills, and adaptability.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking to play for a college where work ethic and playing for each other is part of their motto. My goal is to get a DPT, so a school with a good B.A. program in Pre-med, Kinesiology, or Sports Medicine is essential.

Abshear is part of the Sting Royal RL G09 team that is scheduled to meet San Diego Surf RL, Tampa Bay United and NC Courage while in Greensboro. Normally used as a left back for them, she has a strong presence in the final third, appearing outside the penalty box to make crosses and getting into it to finish chances. Also capable of playing on the right, Abshear is very effective at pushing the ball forward as she does a great job of attacking the space in front of her and is very hard to dispossess. She’s also very solid defensively, timing her tackles well and using her body to win duels and shield the ball.
