Guilherme Torres | Prep Soccer Scout
Hodgson is a center back in the Albion Hurricanes FC G08 team that will have DKSC ‘ last=”] G08/07 and Sting Black G08/07 as opponents this weekend. A defender with solid skills, she stands out for her reliability and her consistency, two skills that are critical for players with big defensive responsibilities. Hodgson knows how to use her physical tools to dominate the penalty box and deny opponents the opportunity to finish, but she also does well when defending in space, doing a good job of slowing opponents down and keeping them away from the penalty box. Her mobility, calm and confidence allow her to play in midfield too, where she thrives at controlling the area in front of the penalty box while also appearing well in possession.

Originally a center back, Hodgson stated the match as a defensive midfielder and did a good job there. She used her size to occupy the space well and helped her team keep Solar away from the penalty box for most of the time. Hodgson moved back to central defense during the second half and continued to deliver there, defending Solar’s attempts with efficiency. She also tried to push the team forward in the final minutes of the match with long passes.

for a long period of the match and did well in containing her, even when dragged higher up in the field or when she had to defend in transition. She kept most of her passing simple and effective, but also had success with some long ball attempts.

Hodgson was really solid in the center of Albion’s backline. She used her size well to anticipate plays, handle long passes and win aerial battles but was also very strong in 1v1 duels. She had an interesting battle with Gonzalez and won some and lost some, keeping Sting’s dangerous forward away from the penalty box for most of the match. Hodgson was also very technical and confident in possession, connecting some really good passes from the back and occasionally pushing the ball upfield herself with runs through the middle.

Hodgson is the player on this list most likely to jump up to the top of the rankings in the next update. The reason to believe Hodgson is the best center back in the state is that she is Uber-competitive and will do anything to help her team win. She is a defender who will make the goal-line save or the last second block. The knock on her is that she can over-pursue the mark or the ball and get sucked out of position. It’s a aspect that most coaches will live with because she has the speed to recover and usually does. She’s a perfect level of controlled aggression for the center back spot.
